We are bigger than a player. If Hastings wants to sook and leave then goodbye. These players have led us to the bottom 4. No one is required.

Do you think there was a degree of that today from him?

He went missing today. 6-4 at halftime with a gale at our back in the 2nd half. No DCE. If he’s the messiah he takes that game by the scruff and wins it. He went missing.

musgrove was terrible, as was brooks. Both can leave.

Hastings is a good player but he’s not a world beater.

Hastings is clearly injured - and he's still the best player in the team. He is exactly what the WTs needed; a strong willed, talkative game manager with a winning mentality.

Our forwards are a massive issue. When they're good we go well, but when they're bad we leak massive points and yardage through the middle. The middle 30 minutes of games is where we fall in a heap (by the final 15 minutes we're usually toast).  I'll leave it to others to determine causation of the problem...

PS; it wasn't the coach.

I actually thought Brooks was best on ground before being moved to DH. Should have had a TA with LL.

Serious question VoR. Who is the cause of our players falling in a heap in the last 45 minutes of a game if it isnt the coach? I would think that that is the clearest cause?

Ciraldo news conference post win. He is definitely considering taking a head coach role. Just a question of which one

Not a who, a what. Look at the timing of the degradation - it relates almost perfectly with our interchanges. We simply can't maintain our starting intensity when we roll our subs.

We've competed extremely well in the first half of most games but not won a second half. Yes the coach is responsible for the changes, but the players have to meet the coach's expectations - and they can't. I asked this question before but no-one has ever answered. What exactly would a new coach - any coach - do with the current crop of players which would suddenly make them threaten the premiership?  There is no answer because the coach isn't the problem.

Our top 13 are very competitive when fresh and firing. With our bench, fatigue and injuries, we're a bottom four team.

I still don't see how sacking the coach, paying him out and telling any potential signings we're going to be poor for another couple of years is helping a team who was short odds for the wooden spoon. What exactly did Sheens, Pascoe and the board expect when they extended Madge in December?

@tiger5150 moving Brooks to hooker was stupid

Madden is not a first grader and we moved a halves pairing that was working in Hastings and  rooks to accommodate Madden

Matty Johns has warned in-demand Panthers assistant Cameron Ciraldo about the pitfalls of taking the wrong job as your first head coaching appointment in the NRL.

Ciraldo, who currently is in charge of Penrith’s defence and has twice filled in for Ivan Cleary this season, most recently in their 42-6 win over the Knights in Round 14, is arguably the best up and coming coach in the game.

The 37-year-old is reportedly being chased hard by the Tigers and the Bulldogs, who are on the lookout for new coaches after parting ways with Michael Maguire and Trent Barrett, but Johns warned Ciraldo he may be biting off more than he can chew.

“Cameron Ciraldo basically at the moment has the pick of any job,” Johns said on Sunday Night with Matty Johns on Fox League.

“But the two clubs that are really chasing him hard are the Bulldogs and the Tigers. They are almost in competition and it has come out the Tigers are looking to offer him five years on big money.

“The thing about it is, is it the right job? Because regardless of the money and the enticement of the contract, do you want to go into a situation where you are setting yourself up for failure?”

However, Nathan Hindmarsh believes the challenge of turning around the Tigers coupled with the financial incentive could prove too big for Ciraldo to ignore and he can always move back to an assistant role down the line if things don’t work out.

“But if he is as good as what people are saying he is, why wouldn’t you have a crack?” Hindmarsh said.

“To have that challenge of turning that club around. That’s what I would like to do if ever I was in that position, I would go, yeah I will take it on. I’m young. I’ve got plenty of experience behind me. If the shit hits the fan I can fall back into being an assistant somewhere because I have been good at that. I would have a crack.”

Johns pointed to Craig Fitzgibbon as an example of a coach who bided his time as an assistant at the Roosters, before taking the right job at the Sharks, who are top four contenders in his first season at the helm.

“If you want to be a coach, I suppose so (have a crack), but if you look at Craig Fitzgibbon he had two or three offers and a few behind the scenes,” Johns said.

“But he just held his nerve and worked with Robbo (Trent Robinson) and suddenly the Sharks job comes up and it is the perfect one, where as he could have taken on another job and who knows? He could have been in the same situation that a lot of the young coaches find themselves in now.”

Bryan Fletcher warned any coach coming out of the Panthers system, that Penrith is a much easier club to coach at than most in the NRL given their youth systems and player depth.

“Trent Barrett was at Penrith and he was the assistant and attacking coach,” Fletcher said.

“I think you have got to be careful coming from a club like Penrith when they have got all those good young kids.

“I’d imagine that’s a lot easier to coach than coaching a club that are struggling not just to get juniors, but also to have good senior players.”

Johns believes there are plenty of coaches in and around the NRL who can coach, but it is the ones that can deal with pressure that survive long-term in the NRL.

“Everyone can coach, like they are all good coaches, but what separates them is the ability to handle pressure,” Johns said.

“When you have lost three in a row and you are like, how are we going to get out of this?

“That’s what separates those great coaches like Bennett and Bellamy, is that they can hold their nerve under pressure.”

Penrith assistant coach Cameron Ciraldo concedes he feels uncomfortable being the subject of constant scrutiny with three NRL clubs on the hunt for a new head coach.

Ciraldo took charge of the Panthers during their 42-6 over Newcastle on Sunday in a week in which the Warriors and Wests Tigers sacked their coaches.

Canterbury have yet to announce a replacement after they axed Trent Barrett last month.

Ciraldo is the next head coach in waiting, given his record at mastering Penrith's defence over the past few seasons, which has contributed to their 2020 minor premiership and last year's grand final win.

The Panthers are attempting to extend his contract but the lure of a top job might prove too much for him.

The 37-year-old played a straight bat to questions about his future as he stepped in for Ivan Cleary, who remained at home due to ongoing issues related to recent knee surgery.

"It's probably not the forum to talk about what I want to do," Ciraldo said.

"It's a credit to our club and players that they don't let that become a distraction.

"Obviously, it's a little bit uncomfortable seeing your name in there (newspapers) all the time. But it's also very flattering.

"My job at the moment is to just keep doing the best I can for Penrith and hopefully keep improving on our defence."

Ciraldo is the hot favourite for the Tigers job, with the club's head of football Tim Sheens effectively declaring that they want a "development coach" to take them forward.

So popular is Ciraldo, he telephoned Knights coach Adam O'Brien during the week because of speculation he was interested in taking the Newcastle job.

Ciraldo spent five seasons at the Knights during his playing career.

"We're good mates and that was a bit of a challenge during the week," he said.

"I know Adam and he'll work his way out of it.

"I'm happy doing what I'm doing and have some pretty special relationships at this place.

"But I've got to look at what's in my career and what's down the track. I'm just focused on Penrith and we'll get to that (a decision on my future) in due time."

Wests Tigers interim coach Brett Kimmorley has wasted no time in stating his interest in the role, claiming he holds a keen desire to lead the Tigers on a full-time basis.

The position at Concord became available on Tuesday afternoon after the merged entity parted company with Michael Maguire ahead of their Round 14 clash with Manly at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

After being handed the reins for the aforementioned fixture, Kimmorley was emphatic in his belief that he was the man to bring brighter skies back to 'Tiger Town'.

When asked by Fox League's Corey Parker about what he was seeking to gain from his 12 weeks in the hot seat, the journeyman halfback planted his flag.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to be the Wests Tigers NRL head coach. It's something that has been a goal of mine, or a dream, since I played," Kimmorley began.

"I love this game and what the next 12 weeks throw up at me, I'm not too sure. As I get into the role more, I'll know and learn more and more about the role.

"We've got some great people in our organisation that have been been very, very helpful in the last five days, so what am I looking to get out of it? Hopefully a career, Corey. Hopefully something I want to do forever.

"I've enjoyed the first four to five days and I'd love to do this forever, but it will also depend on what happens on the field and what happens with us around the organisation."

Having collated an impressive coaching resume as an assistant with the Bulldogs and Raiders, plus tenures as the Tigers Under 20s boss and a stint as a Channel Nine pundit, the 307-game playmaker has seen the game from all angles.

Kimmorley also raised his hand to lead Wests' inaugural NRLW team in April of this year.

When quizzed further about what he wanted to impart on the Tigers of today, Kimmorley's response was equally as unambiguous.

"Fun. Make it enjoyable," he continued.

"I want them to train really, really hard, I think that is something that is almost never negotiable, but I also want to make the organisation fun.

"I want to make sure when they go home they've had a good day, they've worked really, really hard and they feel like they're a better player and a better person."

Though the 1999 Clive Churchill medallist's credentials in studded boots are impossible to degrade, the man known affectionately as 'Noddy' within league circles will face stiff opposition for the post, especially from vaunted Penrith assistant, Cameron Ciraldo.

Reading a post on Facebook that I thought was Interesting were Ciraldo says they/panthers have an attacking, defensive, transition assistant coach with Cleary over seeing. Wonder if CC comes here if that is a formation he uses as well.

@helmesy Would of thought an interview would of already happened ? Just saying ….

I think we can probably say with some certainty now that no one had put pen to paper before we sacked Madge.

The Wests Tigers have sold a strong pitch to Penrith assistant coach Cameron Ciraldo by giving the NRL coach-in-waiting a guided tour of the club’s soon to be opened Centre of Excellence at Concord.

Foxsports.com.au has learned Ciraldo met with Wests Tigers key powerbrokers Tim Sheens and chairman Lee Hagipantelis on Monday.

Four-time premiership-winning coach Sheens sold the Tigers vision about the club being an NRL sleeping giant – with the catch being they need the right development coach to bring through the next generation of juniors.
