@avocadoontoast don’t get me wrong. He is a huge part of the problem but the most efficient CEO on the planet still takes direction from those above him/her.

Also, credit where it’s due - financially we are in a good place

Agree completely. But in my experience a strong CEO calls all the shots, the board just supports. He doesn't have the gravitas for that. I agree though the board (in particular the chair) are absolutely hopeless.

Re: the financials, apart from a few power-point slides with no numbers on it, there hasn't really been anything presented to show that we are in a good place. A lot of it is taking him at his word on it, and I don't really take him at his word. Also, as a rugby league club owned by HBG, aren't we in essence a non-profit anyway?

Easy to look like a financial genius when the NRL pops $15 million in your account each year.

My ongoing concern is, and has been for some time, that Pascoe is not the major problem. I think the problem is primarily higher than him. He will indeed be the scapegoat but this may not  solve our problems.

As much as I hate the board I think Pascoe is as much of a problem.  He's just not a shrewd operator with little to no knowledge of what building a successful rugby league club looks like. This wouldn't be a major issue if he appointed people that do understand rugby league, but his role over the years has become more blurred, dipping his toe into things that are beyond his expertise and hiring/firing people that know a lot more than he does. He disappears when things are going bad and pops his head back up when we have a win. Weak leaders create hard times and he is a very weak leader.

And as for the gushing over him being a great financial operator, he paid Madge out almost $800k (according to reports), he's paying out Sheens, he paid out Taylor. Not what i'd call prudent financial management. Can't wait for him to be gone.

Pascoe is a liability to the betterment of WT. I agree, completely. But some of your comments here are just opinion and seem to be agenda driven and detract from the point you're trying (I think) to make. And, you're a moderator??

@mercy-rule the entire point of a forum is to provide one’s opinion. Is there anything I wrote you disagree with, or do you just have an issue with it because I posted it?

What I have an issue with is those who post comment in a way that implies "knowledge" as opposed to "opinion". Thank you for clarifying that your post was an opinion. And, it's an opinion I share. WT would be far better off without Pascoe.

@avocadoontoast the club needs to generate revenue to fund football operations (including our pathways programs) and despite potentially operating at a break even Point as you suggest, the increased operating capital required needs to come from somewhere. I guess the suggestion is that Pascoe has created a sustainable financial model to fund this.

@mercy-rule it’s an opinion on the reported 800k ? He has an opinion based on the reports out there .
That’s pretty obvious mate .
Why are you being antagonistic?  I understand debating your position , but you’re just smashing him up over semantics . Strange

@mercy-rule that’s the amount that was reported. That’s why I put in brackets (according to reports). I don’t think you necessarily have an issue with what’s being posted so much as the poster. It’s pretty evident since you joined this forum you have issue with me and that’s fine. If it gives you joy please continue as it honestly doesn’t bother me in the slightest.

And that may be true. My point is Pascoe has been given a lot of credit for his financial management, which has been presented by Pascoe himself. I’m not saying it isn’t true, but I wouldn’t bet money on it being accurate.

* @mercy-rule this is just my opinion.

A bit of a summary of Lee's speech from the Kelly Barnes night.

I could look back at this season and review what went wrong, I choose not to.
I could list the many reasons for the way this season went, I choose not to.
I could dissect the losses and the performances, I choose not to.
Etc

Season 2023 is over, nothing can be achieved by looking back, I choose to look forward.

That is a basic summary from my recollection, some of the wording may not be 100% accurate but that was the gist of the speech.

In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)

But how do you change the future outlook without reflecting on the past and working out how you can do things better?

I get what he is trying to say but this has been the same cycle for too long now. Just forget what has happened and hope for better next year.
