LO is one if the most used grounds in sydney

I think private equity can get in there and build a big grandstand (like bankwest) at latchem Robinson stand and keep the hill.

I’m not sure how this would work given it’s a publicly owned asset.

council forgoes 50% of asset to private equity they could charge for ground use

IMO Council would never forego the asset, that would stay in Council ownership (public property) but they can contract out share of revenue.

Campbelltown hat-trick: Three plans in play to overhaul stadium

A modern 20,000-seat stadium could be built in Sydney's south-west if Campbelltown City Council succeeds with its application for state government funding to renovate Campbelltown Stadium.

The NSW government's decision to axe the proposed $810 million redevelopment of ANZ Stadium means funds could be redirected to renovations for suburban stadia. ARL Commission chairman Peter V'landys has already declared his preference for the money to be spent on upgrading rugby league grounds across the city. Campbelltown Stadium could be among the first.

Campbelltown City Council, which owns the venue, is lobbying for funding to transform the stadium into a fully seated, 20,000-capacity arena.

  1. "I have made representations to the appropriate ministers," Campbelltown mayor George Brticevic said. "We have been lobbying to get funding for Campbelltown Stadium. I think people love the fact that local stadiums and community infrastructure is close by."

The council will submit three proposals for renovations, each catering to different levels of funding. At the lowest amount, the hills at either end will be replaced with grandstands and corporate facilities will be improved. A larger sum could lead to the development of a venue similar to Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta, but with a capacity of about 20,000.

"We could do a mini makeover, we could do a major renovation or a complete overhaul, it just depends on the amount of money available," Brticevic said.

"We would love to create stands at either end - north and south - to make it fully seated. We would love to refresh our corporate hospitality areas. We could refurbish the seating and aesthetics, it depends on what funding is available but the tentative ideas are there. It’s just a matter of what’s available and if it comes to fruition; plan A, B or C."

The application will be boosted by the fact the stadium is used by two codes. A-League newcomers Macarthur FC will become a major permanent tenant and it is one of three home grounds used by NRL club Wests Tigers.

20K is too small, may as well leave it as is.

Agreed, though getting rid of the grass and upgrading some of the facilities around the ground would be a good medium term solution.

Not every ground needs to be 30,000+

We already have 2 premier stadiums in Sydney for large crowds, bolstered by 30,000 seats at Commbank.

Smaller suburban grounds of 20,000 to 25,000 with the ability to add to it in future is where it’s at.

If you’re going to do an upgrade it would be worth going to at least 25000

We average around 16-17k over the last 10 years of not making finals - once we become successful again  we'd be able to get crowds of between 20-30k consistently.

If we are to use the bigger premium stadiums for the 5-8 bigger drawing games of the year - that essentially goes back to a 3 stadium strategy.

@frullens this is why I have questions over this move. It gives no room for growth.

CSS has 17,500 seats currently I believe (confirmation?). A phased approached to redevelopment associated with COE is probably the most we can hope for in the short term ie additional of 5,000 under cover seats at the northern end connected to the COE similar to what Manly have done at Brookvale would push capacity above 20k and create much needed sheltered seating. At a later date the rebuilds of the existing east and west stands will add further seating and coverage. Leaving the souther end as a hill would be fine. The cost of the COE and northern stand at Brookvale was $33m which is a similar cost to what is allocated for the CSS COE

@the-last-ronin I like it if CS gets redeveloped into 30k stadium. But otherwise it's limiting and short-sighted.

Let's say we are in the 8 for most of next year - and we have to turn away 10-15k of our long suffering fans for every game because the grounds only handle 15-18k.

We are averaging 13700 per home game last 10 years excluding Covid year. Im a fan of the LO/CSS split but they are both maxed out at 18K. We are not going to average 16-17K there.

You're right

We reduce our averages big time when playing out of grouns that only hold 15k or 17k.

Imagine playing Easter Monday game at LO only holding 15k when it would normally get 30k+
