It’s interesting, not sure how the politics works but Wollongong and Campbelltown are safe Labor, but Penrith and northern beaches have just moved marginal Labor from liberal. On the one hand you would assume that Labor would support their electorates but on the other they presumably would anger a lot of people in Penrith if they backed out of the total rebuild there. Distributing the money across multiple suburban stadiums maybe makes the most electoral sense? That way Penrith gets a decent upgrade without building a monster stadium there for 1 team
I believe most people in Penrith would be happy with an upgrade, there is definitely a need for a new Eastern Stand but the new stadium is over the top and doesn't have a lot of support from the wider Penrith community in my opinion. I think there is a win win situation that could come out of this.
In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)
Spending money on building a new stadium would be hard to justify for a new govt, they will need to show that they are not frivolous spenders. I heard Minns talking about health, education and cost of living pressures as his priorities. I doubt we will see money for any stadium upgrades.

I agree, I don’t think there will be any significant spending on stadiums until closer to the next election (and I think that’s fair enough given the inflation and cost of living issues).

Except where does that leave Leichhardt Oval? In its current state it’s a law suit waiting to happen. I don’t think they can leave upgrades until after the next election. If they do not upgrade LO I hope there is a Wests Tigers exit plan for LO.Spending money on building a new stadium would be hard to justify for a new govt, they will need to show that they are not frivolous spenders. Where do you see the lawsuits coming from? A mass injury event?
The ground is in need of an upgrade but I can’t see where mass injuries come from as long as sensible safety measures/crowd limits are in place.
Yes, serious injury. Either a failure of infrastructure or a major incident when it rains. It will only take one event. So far they have been lucky with no major injuries. That luck won’t last.Except where does that leave Leichhardt Oval? In its current state it’s a law suit waiting to happen. I don’t think they can leave upgrades until after the next election. I think part of that luck is that rain keeps the crowds away making things easier to manage. I know I’ve been there when sections of the hill have been fence off due to the mud. You could be right but personally I can’t see it happening.
On a side note I think the crowd should only be used 2-3 times a year and we should be looking at playing more games in modern stadiums.

Wasn’t the Mayor saying LO wouldn’t be fit for NRL after this season if money isn’t spent? Now his ALP mates are in we’ll see if anything changes.

Doesn’t look like any monies will be spent on suburban stadiums in the foreseeable future. New government priorities are Hospitals and Education.

Yep. What’s the plan B?

This is an interesting discussion. The should they or shouldn’t they question comes down to what people expect from the game day experience, noting going to the footy isn't a cheap affair. While I appreciate a quality modern stadium, I’m quite content with Campbelltown and Leichhardt. I just want to be able to get to the ground easily, have a good view of the game, be able to grab a beer and go to the loo. I went to round 1 and Leichhardt seemed fit for purpose in that context. I’m not a lefty but money should be spent elsewhere.
I saw a snippet of Minns the other day talking about stadium funding. I got the impression that the new Penrith stadium will not be happening.

I enjoy Leichhardt however the facilities are not up to standard. Toilets have improved but still only okay, viewing is terrible from the hill at times, audio doesn’t work probably, comfort in bad weather is poor. Let’s not kid ourselves by saying that is the way forward as a club. I don’t take my kid there and know others who don’t as well because the match day experience is poor compared to other grounds
