Commbank will never be our home. It has absolutely no soul, like the eels that inhabit it.
I noticed today they are selling a mega block at the southern end of Leichhardt oval when I walk past today. Harry should buy that block and build some apartments/southern grandstand there. We could get to 25k seats.
It is not well designed stadium for the fans at all. Everyone knows it was designed for the media and corporates. Even ask Wests Tigers and they will say the same thing. It’s absolutely a terrible design for the fans. I have no particular attachment to the suburban grounds and my thoughts on this matter have been said here many times. The solution is NOT Western Sydney Stadium. Not nonsense at all. If it’s a crap ground for the fans, it’s not a home ground for Wests Tigers and never will be. Without the fans you don’t have a club. Sure there is more revenue from corporate but it’s meaningless if the fans don’t go there.Western Sydney Stadium is a crap stadium. It’s build for the media not the fans. Terrible design and yes it is Parramatta’s home ground. You have to walk past this, right out front, to get in.I understand people have this sentimental attachment to Leichhardt Oval and even Campbelltown. It's great we get to continue playing games here... But they're both not fit for purpose, don't have big enough capacity and even with the works planned on them, what will it actually bring? A few better bathrooms and more food trucks? With an extra 1,500 seats?
I get people don't like CommBank because it's Parramatta's home ground. But it's a bloody amazing stadium, not a bad view from any seat, so easy to get to, access is so easy and facilities are amazing.
I don't live in Sydney anymore. But I travel up from Tassie about 6 times a year to attend matches. I go to matches at all 3 venues, and by far the best experience of the venue is always CommBank. I am very hesitant to bring my daughter to Leichhardt, but she's been to CommBank and she loved the experience. Not to mention a friggin playground outside the main entrance, easy to get to toilets, easy to get food and drinks, great views and don't have to be fight long line ups and crowds.
I love Leichhardt Oval, I lived 20 minute walk away in early 2000s including 05. I was there for Balmains last ever match in 1999. I love the atmosphere and yes, we should play a few games here. Campbelltown is also good, love the options of clubs and bars before and after the game. Easy to get to. But again... Line to to get a drink before the game is ok, but forget getting something quick or getting to the toilet and back within 2 minutes during game time.
The games I've been to CommBank at the atmosphere has been electric. The chants we get going can be loud. Will never forget the Eels home game last year and we out chanted them.
Utter nonsense. Corporate facilities are great for clubs and you can get a great corporate seat for not a lot. All seats in the ground, even the GA seats in the corners are great.
Apart from your gripe if having to look in the sun on the one game of the year, how else is it a crap stadium? The design, access, facilities are all state of the art.
Put your emotions aside. Forget whose home ground it is or what fans like it or attend. That's not my point. CommBank is such a well designed stadium for so many reasons. If we could have something like that, in our own location, that would be ideal. The emotion of suburban grounds is great, but the practicality of them, especially with families and kids, is not great.
Both Leichhardt and Campbelltown Sports Stadium need substantial funds to bring them up to standard. We have been given enough for a makeover of each, not enough for the upgrade actually needed. We need more funds.
Alternative Stadium Australia needs to be converted to a rectangular field.
None of these three things are going to happen in my lifetime, but Western Sydney Stadium is NOT the answer either. It’s just terrible ground for fans.
