I agree @unhappy-tiger but does the modern athlete think this way? Constantly bemuses me how the modern player seems so friendly with the opposition and not ‘psyched.’ I’m not sure they get this worked up any more. But they should!!
Yeah ...but it can't get overused ....I've often wondered do the blokes get pumped when they hear "Eye of the Tiger" blasting in their ears when they run out anymore ...I totally understand your focussing on your goals and what you want to achieve every match ...but when that base line kicks in you would hope they grow an inch or two taller and more bulletproof .....maybe it's become humdrum now ??

These guys grew up in the age of everyone gets a certificate. You lose your spot in the team, whinge (or pull mental health card) and next week you can be at another club.
There’s no “fail” thus there’s no soul searching or personal growth (or just plain growing up).

Seems like it. I can honestly say that I, at 55, still get psyched when I hear eye if the Tiger. It really pumps me up when played before a game. But that’s what I grew up with I suppose. These guys are wired differently is my guess

This is so true Joel. Some great lessons were borne out of getting pumped 60-0.

You would hope reserve grade barring extraordinary circumstances ...the only game I can remember playing in when we conceded 60 plus we finished the game with 10 players .......
Worst in the comp? … may or may not be the case… only time will tell.
If I was Madge I’d blow up this prediction and stick it up in the locker room so our pigs see it before every training session. Use it as fuel to motivate the lads to prove Fox wrong!
Unfortunately I think that they are spot on. Our standout player is a 21yo prop with less than a year of first grade. Outside of him most of the remainder would not make a starting pack at the majority of other clubs.
I can’t disagree with Fox. In my opinion we have only Stef and maybe Liddle of first grade standard. Guys like Blore, Tuki, Kelma and Musgrove have shown potential and Twal and Seyfarth are just solid workers. I like the Peach but age may catch up with him this year. Hopefully some of the young juniors come through.

Speaking if youngsters, I’m looking forward to seeing how the young prop from the Knights goes. I think he’s on a development contract though.

The Fox Sports “analysis” of our pack for 2023:
The Tigers may rank 16th on our list but there is still hope for the side.
They have several young guns showing real promise — Stefano Utoikamanu is a star in the making having been included in the NSW Origin camp for game three while Thomas Mikaele already looks a force ready to be let loose and Jacob Liddle showed glimpses of real promise last season in the No.9 jersey.
While James Tamou and Joe Ofahengaue are reliable players and the addition of Tyrone Peachey will add some versatility to their lock role in the form of a ball playing, elusive forward.
The Tigers will need to address their discipline as they ranked fourth among the competition’s forward packs - including bench players - on set restart infringements in 2021.
Some other key stats do go in the Tigers favour — they had the fourth most offloads of any side’s forwards and the lowest number of errors on average per game.
The Tigers have struggled for several years now, but if their players can develop under the tutelage of Tamou and Maguire they could be a formidable force in years to come.

Reading the article again, it’s not all doom and gloom.
I reckon the majority of our pack have not yet reached their ceiling in terms of playing at their best and if they can all hit their peak or close to it. We could surprise a few teams.
We desperately need someone in this pack to take the the lead and say to the rest of the boys “follow me!!”.

So true, that was Stefano at different times in 2022 but he needs more help.

@helmesy if only Musgrove would finally pull his finger out and become that hard head, enforcer type that goes after the other teams pack!
In tandem with Stefano and an in form Mikaele (fingers crossed). We actually would have the basis of a formidable pack for many years to come.

For sure re Musgrove. If anyone should be on a performance based deal it should be him. How he got the deal he did defies belief.
