@mercy-rule why ? To me the initial plan was sticking to the same old same old because everyone said that’s what you do ! By failing to sign ciraldo , it forced the club to assess everything , and decide finally they are going to zig to the popular convention zag .
I have no idea if it will work , but at least we are trying something .

Thelogic of what you’re saying only applies to teams that are any good . We came stone motherless last , last year playing Madgeball, storm ball 2015, roosters ball . But really really bad versions of anything successful .

The club didn't "decide" anything. They had no option. Sheens, entrusted by the club, failed in his task of securing Ciraldo. He, reluctantly, by his own admission, had to take on the head coach role. As for the first wooden spoon in the club's history in 2022, that was not Madgeball, that was Kimmorley-thrown-under-a-bus-by Sheens ball.

@mercy-rule ??? . The first girl I had a serious crush on , rejected me . Hurt my feelings , I went reeling , had a hard look in the mirror , and decided I’d change some things . Found another girl who was awesome ,but nothing like the first girl .
thefirst girl ended up being a nightmare from what I was told .
I feel like this is a pretty good analogy for what happened last year .

I'm sure you do.

@mercy-rule that’s just confirmation bias , and semantics . They decided to break convention , and not sign another dude on the head coach merry go round .
Look I didn’t come to this forum to rehash the same garbage from the other one .
If it’s club bashing and mindless jabs you want , there’s a perfectly good , well not good , forum that allows to you go deep into the muck and wallow in it .
We just won a footy game for the first time since forever , and you’re debating this tripe . It’s so negative and futile .
the decision has been made , the club has decided on this path .

This is a pointless debate .

@mercy-rule is just saying how it is/was, no sugar coating… Hopefully the current coaching staff will get the best out of the team and we can all move on… it’s yet to be proven though. I for one live in hope but have low expectations. Haven’t brought my GF tickets just yet…

Just rewatched the trial match again (I’m desperate for round 1 to begin!!), and based on trial form I would actually have Staines over Laurie and aj over talau.

There were a few kicks in the first half that Laurie and nofo went nowhere near and luckily for us the bounce was friendly, but on another day it could of led to a couple of tries and we would have been chanting for his head. He also somehow bombed the try off the AD offload by getting manhandled by Fogarty. The times Staines touched the ball he had confidence and strength that Laurie is lacking.

similarily, talau played okay but dropped a couple of balls cold which reminded me of his old form. Combine that with his first trial defensive lapses and I’m not confident he is going to hold up in the regular season under pressure. Aj on the other hand was very strong in defence. A few 1-on-1 tackles out wide and some solid runs in attack. Did see him blowing hard in the background at one point but it was a stinker of a day so excusable.

The other one that played under the radar was Twal. For the first time in forever we saw him offload, and even had a jinking step in the second half to get in behind the defence which was uncharacteristic. He has to be on the bench, or even start him so that stef comes in for impact.

And just because I laid the boot into him after the first game, I should be fair and say that wakeham played pretty well in defence that second game. He also set up that lovely line break to junior for the try after the break, so kudos where it’s due.

Agree, he seemed to be making big efforts in defence, something must have been said.
