One thing that I saw that I really liked and gives me some hope for the year ahead was a couple of times, we got a couple of offloads away which broke up their defence and immediately we ran straight and punched through the centre. In the bad Sheens years, it seemed like the team got high on their own hype about being "entertainers" and an offload was followed by 4 passes etc etc. That happened a few times yesterday, leading to a try on one occasion, but on more than once I saw an offload breaking up the defence and our immediate response was to punch forward. It was the young guys as well and it gives me hope that this team under this coach could be onto something meaningful.
@tiger5150 I think it’s becoming more and more obvious to me , it’s the benji and Robbie show , with sheens providing top cover , and oversight /over watch .
And if this is the performance and style that is about to be the future . I’m here for it !
also I was listening to the Gus Gould podcast with Eddie jones and Gus made a poignant comment .
“how can you come first if your following others “ .
One thing that this new era is at least going to finally break , is our devotion to copying others over the last 10 years .
Because we were the wish version of a structure first football organisation.
Still yet to see the game but I look forward to watching some of the highlights and individual efforts that have been mentioned here.
Probably the best accompaniment to this viewing would be a generous slice of humble pie... which I deserve and will gladly accept!
I really liked Tasi James' contribution off the bench. Ran very hard. I had hoped we'd give Seyfarth and early release to free up a spot for an outside back but now I think Tasi James is worthy of a FT contract.
Does anyone know why Starford Toa warmed up in full gear but didnt play?

I thought I saw him go on, about the same time that Tumeth went on. Thought I remembered a reasonable run from him. Am I imagining things?

You are correct mate.

Two other random thoughts. Blore looked good in first game back.
I would love to know madges real thoughts watching that.
Blore threw some really nice balls in that game.
Was actually the most interesting thing for me. Really had never seen anything from him in attack. Looks more of a complete player than i gave him credit for. maybe because we are playing a different style, hopefully
This "new era" was supposed to be under the tutelage of Cameron Ciraldo. Instead, we've got Tim Sheens, who couldn't land Cameron Ciraldo. I hope he does copy other more contemporary and successful NRL coaches.@tiger5150 I think it’s becoming more and more obvious to me , it’s the benji and Robbie show , with sheens providing top cover , and oversight /over watch .

Why was it "supposed to be"? Who deemed it so? Did Cameron Ciraldo ever express any actual desire to coach us? On what basis should it be assumed that Ciraldo was "supposed to" coach us?
Its like saying we are "supposed to" have Tom Turbo at fullback and Nathan Cleary as halfback this year......except, they dont want to play here.

Ciraldo may have been sold a dud, without major improvements at 7 and 1 it is going to be a very difficult task for him to match the expectations that the dogs have moving forward.

I watched the game last night, lots of positives. The main thing for me was that every player was looking to promote the ball rather than just die with it, the second phase play was great to watch. The raiders though were awful so we shouldn’t get too excited.
Who deemed it so?? Sheens did. He has said on repeated occasions that he wanted Ciraldo and that he would prefer NOT to be the NRL head coach. Hence, the transition plan to the untried and untested coaching prowess of Marshall. This "new era" was supposed to be under the tutelage of Cameron Ciraldo. I bet Sheens never said Ciraldo was "supposed to " come.
The Club wanted Nathan Cleary at halfback, and Mitchell Moses. Was that supposed to happen? Did anyone ask Ciraldo?
its ridiculous to suggest it was supposed to happen like Sheens screwed it up. Ciraldo wanted to go to Bulldogs, didnt want to come here.
You quote Sheens here on "repeated occassions" where he said he wanted Ciraldo, do you quote him when he says that after Ciraldo turning us down, that he thinks its a better idea (as do I) to develop coaches from within the same way you try to do with players?
Im at a loss as to how its Sheens or the clubs fault Ciraldo isnt here. It was never "supposed to" happen, he didnt want to come.
@mercy-rule why ? To me the initial plan was sticking to the same old same old because everyone said that’s what you do ! By failing to sign ciraldo , it forced the club to assess everything , and decide finally they are going to zig to the popular convention zag .
I have no idea if it will work , but at least we are trying something .
Thelogic of what you’re saying only applies to teams that are any good . We came stone motherless last , last year playing Madgeball, storm ball 2015, roosters ball . But really really bad versions of anything successful .
@mercy-rule ??? . The first girl I had a serious crush on , rejected me . Hurt my feelings , I went reeling , had a hard look in the mirror , and decided I’d change some things . Found another girl who was awesome ,but nothing like the first girl .
thefirst girl ended up being a nightmare from what I was told .
I feel like this is a pretty good analogy for what happened last year .
