The Wests Tigers found a way to win in a gritty and determined display against the Bulldogs on Saturday evening.
Coming off three straight losses and a horror run with injuries and a key suspension, Wests Tigers got away with a 22-16 win to take the side to 16 competition points. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel, Josh and Nick first discuss some breaking news - reports that we're on the verge of signing the Dolphins' Jake Averillo. Averillo, who also played for the Bulldogs before heading north for a stint at Redcliffe, apparently wants to return to Sydney, and it appears Wests Tigers are favourites for his services. What would he bring? Where would he play in our backline? We discuss the prospect of Averillo becoming a Tiger in 2027. Of course, we also have a hefty list of 'One Word' responses and submissions posted by the members of the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum. And on that Bulldogs game, some key talking points come up for discussion, including:
- The last-ditch defensive efforts that saved the night
- The couple of heart-in-your-throat moments that we managed to survive
- The performance of some of our star players
- Injuries, injuries, and more injuries
- The one guy that we probably have to leave behind to be a better football team
And there's also a look at the key stats from the game, the exciting wins for our club right across the board this weekend, and some thoughts on who might have to come into the team for this week's clash against the high-flying Panthers. Oh, and Joel has his finals countdown numbers to share; tune in or hit play to see how we're tracking at this point in the season. We hope you enjoy this latest post-victory edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast; thanks for your support!
Wests Tigers Podcast - Talking everything Wests Tigers since 2018!
Enjoyed the pod as always
On the discussion about 'still being in it' and calculating the remaining points on offer, here is my 2 cents
Yes we need to win half the remaining 13 games so 6 wins at an absolute minimum with 7 wins most likely required.
The draw is favourable to us
Rd 15 - Titans
Rd 18 - Dragons
Rd 20 - Dogs
Rd 22 - Eels
Rd 24 - Dragons
The opponents above are all likely to be out of the finals race by the time we play them if they are not already; then
Rd 27 - Penrith (likely to rest players for the final game as they are currently 4 points ahead in 1st place)
The extra win would then need to come against one of these teams
Dolphins (H)
Warriors (H)
Raiders
Knights
Roosters
Cowboys
Those favourable games are the ones that worry me the most! The 3 weeks prior to the bye really drives home how much we need our best players on the field as much as possible. Let's hope we can stay injury-free from this point and be competitive in every game for the rest of the regular season to give us the best chance possibleEnjoyed the pod as always

Post victory podcast are always more enjoyable to listen to but still appreciate the effort to do one after a loss as well.
IMO Ciraldo missed the point of Luai chasing Curran after the charge down. It wasn't that he thought it was legit but he hadn't heard a whistle so the ball was still live. Play to the whistle is what you teach kids, even if you think it went out or a foul has been committed. Just sports 101!
Loved all the desperation plays and tackles that secured that win but please guys just a bit more breathing space on the scoreboard with a few minutes left to play would be nice too.
The new batch of injuries are a concern and the prospect of SofO selections could see us running out in Magpie jumpers with the whole KO Cup side getting the call up. Good thing they had a win too on the weekend.
