Injuries are part and parcel of Rugby League.. they certainly have an effect on results..

Looking at all Clubs (No. of Top 30 players out)
Brisbane (5), Canberra (6) Dogs (5) Sharks (3) Gold Coast (1) Manly (8) Storm (6) Knights (5) Cows (1) Parra (5) Penrith (0) Souths (6) Dragons (5) Rorters (4) Warriors (4) Wests Tigers (12)..

I want what's in the water at the Pamfers..

Storm for example lose Papenhuyzen and Hughes and where thumped by the Pamfers having won their past 3 games by plenty..

I think those arguing for/against the 'injuries are a fair excuse" can probably find plenty of stats to support their position.

My view is that while we have been impacted by injuries, the extent of the impact is compounded by sorry recruitment.

Im sure I remember reading that at rd 1 we had 29 players contracted and $600k left to spend in the cap.

Given Blore, AD, AJ and Tommy Talau were all on Long Term injury list at that point the decision not to sign a 30th player at that time was pretty dumb.

Agreed, we should have added someone.

Brett Naden anyone..

Didn't see that coming

@tiger-symmetry yes I get your point, however in my personal opinion there was a lot more upside with Momorovski than Roberts.

Roberts at his best is a much better player and is on much less coin, he also has one thing that we don't have.

Yeah beg to differ there Garry, don’t think he’s that quick. Maybe in 2015 and his defence was very very questionable. Not to mention injury and mental wellness.

I have no problem with his mental wellness, in fact I have a lot of respect for someone that owns their mistakes the way he does. How open and honest he is about his issues is a credit in my opinion.

He showed some speed in the Knights game, speed I didn't think he had, the issue is it took us over a year to get him in a position to use it. I would have been ok with letting him go at the end of last year but putting him on a train and trial deal over the summer was smart business and he earnt a contract from that. In the games he played this season he has been really strong so I can not fault him on 2022, I wish we had him for more games and on this years form I probably have him in a full strength team.

I don't know about the fight and have no issue with the balcony.

@garry  we might not have to worry to much about it soon anyways. But what I have more of an issue with now is

Where’s Noffa?

That is a real interesting one, he has had a few head knocks this year so it is a concern.

Roberts has been one of out best each game he's played.

Really stepped up this year.

Some players have had some pretty tough childhoods and then have been thrusted into the footy spotlight where there's constant discipline plus you can also get away with murder at the same time.

No wonder some don't know how to process things.

Roberts is still only 28 and he has matured pushed thrifty adversity. Credit to him I say.

Top 8 2023

In the pod, there was a comment that we haven't used year to blood enough youth.

I thought you may be interested in some quick research.

Of the 27 players we have used this year - 10 have played less than 25 games prior to this season:

Junior Tupou (0) 2
Junior Pauga (2) 1
Jock Madden (3) 7
Kelma Tuilagi (5) 9
Jake Simpkin (9) 6
AJ Kepaoa (10) 2
Alex Seyfarth (16) 9
Starfors Toa (20) 8
Daine Laurie (22) 6
Stefano Utoikamanu (24) 6

On top of that we have had 4 players who have played more than 25 games but have made their club debut:

Hastings
Gildart

Peachy
Naden
Brown

Remembering Hastings was bought to play 13, starting in 6  - and now has cemented himself as our long term 7
