Just to clarify, the To'a idea was back row, not lock! I like him running wide, I reckon he could potentially be a second rower.

Still a bad idea.

Worse than Seyfarth in the back row? If Bateman leaves and we don't sign a second rower from somewhere else, who plays in the back row with Samuela? You could put Jack Bird in there but then who plays at lock? Unless you trial Latu at 13...

not sure Latu is robust enough for that.

Where would he defend in your plan?

Signing a backrower is a non-negotiable if we want to play finals footy, but yes Toa would be worse than Seyfarth.

I actually think Bateman will be playing with us next season. Which should put to bed any plans of getting another backrower or throwing S To’a in there. Who knows they may our right edge.

I understand (and agree on principle) with Garrys POV regarding next roster spot going to a 2RF, but I am also mindful of the requirement (at this stage) of keeping the Fainu clan happy and IMO just for safety and team cohesion, give the next spot to Sione.

I agree it would be wonderful if Matamua was to have a step change over the offseason but I’m doubtful because he was unable to ever crack an NRL game this year.

i think Sione did well at lock this year as an extra prop in the middle with a bit of ball playing. Given his improvement last offseason I could see him making the role his own if he had a shot at it. We probably don’t need him in our top prop rotation

Agree. Bateman is done here, at least in the NRL side.

Bird isn’t an 80min lock so if Benji is intent on using him mostly at lock then Sione/Bird to share lock with cover for FRF/2RF/lock and centre between isn’t a bad use of one bench spot

I reckon one of the kids will step up massively this year, whether its Matamua, Kit, Saukuru, or Porter. I think one of the young guys will surprise us

I know the Brett Hodgson appointment is deemed controversial but he has to be there specifically to help Bula with his development towards being an elite fullback. We need him to keep improving and noone better to learn from.
