Wests Tigers Podcast - Talking everything Wests Tigers!
Just started listening to the pod, Nick’s there again, look out guys there’s a coup afoot. Jokes aside (poor jokes aside) Nick just talked about the errors & Api’s poor drop out, how good will it be to have Luai there next year to free Api from having to do just about everything. Api can just play dummy half & tackle, that’s it. He won’t have to kick, play nine, seven and organise all in one game. He might not even have to do pressers post game where he looks shot. Surely he’ll be better off as a result.
I mentioned this to Yioti & a few others last week but I’d like to see us have a crack at Neil Henry as assistant to Benji. The guy has 30 years experience coaching or assisting, is well respected especially as a tactician and I’d assume isn’t a guy who would be hoping to get the head coach gig. I think he’d be a terrific help to Benji and someone he could bounce ideas off etc.
Steve’s right up to a point, we have no front rowers but neither did the Dogs. I guess depends on the style of footy u want to play and if it’s the game the Panthers & Dogs play then good, mobile middles are the go, not necessarily big impact guys. The thing with those two teams is they have wingers or outside backs who are extremely fit (all the squad is extremely fit) who work very hard getting sets started etc. Not sure if Jahream can do what the fullbacks at those two clubs can do, I think Heath Mason could. Willet is a tall young winger who I expect will put on some muscle & could potentially provide some good metres etc from the wing, Sol Saukuru same from centre/wing, Turuva hopefully, Luke. The game just seems to have evolved to the point where the ability of outside backs to work hard & start sets is becoming as important, if not more so, than a big dominant middle making metres for 45 mins a game. And the best big dominant middles are very rare.
I think Ben Gardiner is a similar style personality to Henry although Ben might be keen to remain at Panthers until a suitable head coaching gig became available.I mentioned this to Yioti & a few others last week but I’d like to see us have a crack at Neil Henry as assistant to Benji. Neil Henry would be a good pick
Agree with you mate, Api needs Luai to help manage the load. I think the two of them are going to be a huge dynamic shifter for us in 2025. I could very happily go to sleep now and wake up in March next year, I've seen enough for 2024 sadlyJust started listening to the pod, Nick’s there again, look out guys there’s a coup afoot. Wieldler reporting Panthers looking at “select clubs” for interest in To’o. I doubt we’d be one, but never know. If it’s all true of course which I doubt very much. But in my opinion To’o, Luia,Steve’s right up to a point, we have no front rowers but neither did the Dogs. Turuva (well, the Dogs are Panthers 2, maybe we could be Panthers 2.5) and a Jack Williams type middle would see this club improve a helluva lot, a helluva lot……
Another very good podcast! 100% Steve! This club bathes in mediocracy ☹️

Nick, don’t be ridiculous in sacking Benji. That is more of the same. Hopefully Richo doesn’t follow your advice. If we were going to sack him it should have been on Richos day 1.
When your players make under 10s mistakes you’ve got to fix the Roster, not the coach. These guys shouldn’t need to be coached basics.
yeah Benji makes some questionable bench management decisions but we as punters don’t know the reasons.
we’ve had 50 coaches, got to fix the Roster!!!! Nobodies going to come if you keep switching coach!
Steve, you mentioned the club doesn’t support the players. How do you know that?
stop the negative talk. Follow the leader Richo. The club needs stability, not more coach changes.
Stephano does not have an animal mentality. That is his problem. Maybe where he’s going other players can teach him. The problem for us is we expected him to be the teacher/leader.
As far as him saying he wanted to captain the club, I’ve seen zero evidence of that.
Nick’s goto go. He’s depressing me.
Maybe a realist! Lahlahlahlah, I’m not listening
Guys, Richo can’t fix it one year. It’s laughable. It’s going to take years.
- I like the Dale Fenucan idea!
