Just a few things about Gus’ draft proposal;

the way you get around restraint of trade ie. forcing a player who wants to leave to go to the bottom club , is draft picks and trading .
Eg. Payne Hass wants to go to the roosters , we have the number 1 pick . So if the roosters want Haas they need to trade us X value for him. For example , they trade us their amateur draft first round pick for a couple of years , Walker and billy smith .
What it does , is allow teams going for it now to double down, as well as basically understand that they’re probably going to have to come down the bottom in a few years .
And allows rebuilding clubs to have the very best talent .
It doesn’t always work out though . Shit clubs will always be shit . Like the hornets , magic and kings in the nba .the kings only last year managed to stop being the most dysfunctional club in the nba , after the got rid of their gun in divac and I believe their owner Vivek either sold the club , or has a hands off approach now . So they have a good management team in place . ThT club passed up on players like Luke Doncic and multiple others for guys who are barely in the nba now . My point is the draft doesn’t reward bad clubs , what it does is give struggling clubs an opportunity to turn things around , which in our current system really isn’t possible .
It also doesn’t punish good clubs . It just means they have to operate around the fringes , which isn’t a big deal because just like the nba , the good clubs already start out in front simply because they are good , and usually in desirable living locations .
My second point is around how contracts would be structured . What would happen is players who were on their rookie deal , or with say eg7 years of first grade , would automatically have to declare for the draft if they want to move , as well as have no power to veto trades. After that players would be given partial and full no trade clauses , to reward loyalty and longevity .
this wouldn’t be that much of an issue , because young players would be looking for opportunities anyway , and most won’t want out because they’re still finding their footing .
It works is all I’m saying . It just needs a lot of work and attention put into it .

Sheens said at the after game event at Tamworth that Doueihi would play 13 and that Doueihi was happy with that.

He doesn't have much choice but to be happy with that.

He also said that they are expecting him back in May/ June.

In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)
