Wests Tigers Podcast - Talking everything Wests Tigers!
Thanks guys enjoyed the pod.
Joel I enjoyed your stats about average run metres per set. 1558m total run metres for WT. 38m on average per set. I think this sums up our problem which is a longstanding one.
We're simply no chance of becoming a contender until or unless we find blokes that will tuck it under the arm and run hard.
I feel that the last time the WT played with this mentality was sadly under Ivan. There is a particular night at Leichhardt that stands out for me. There was genuine momentum on each set with forwards rolling onto the ball.
Just out of curiosity I compared the Ivan era to last Sunday, I think its clear that we played with harder running under Ivan.
2018 Rd 10 (Cleary Era) | Last Sunday v NZ Warriors | |
Total Runs | 184 | 176 |
Total Metres | 1790 | 1558 |
Average Metres per Run | 9.73 | 8.85 |
This article relates to ALL RUN METRES by team for the 2019 season and it suggests that you need to be over 9m a carry to end up in the finals mix.
We still have a lot of players who dont get near 9m per carry but on the positive every one of our new signings for 2025 has a strong carry and this gives me hope of better times ahead.
