The Wests Tigers have abandoned their five-man captaincy system and installed former captain James Tamou as the club’s sole on-field leader for the rest of the 2022 season.
The Tigers were criticised at the start of the season for installing five captains in Tamou, Luke Brooks, Adam Doueihi, Ken Maumalo and Tyrone Peachey.
However, with former coach Michael Maguire now gone with the club sitting 14th with just three wins, Tigers’ interim coach Brett Kimmorley announced the captaincy change.
“He plays his 300th game in two weeks, he’s won a premiership and he’s played for his country.
“It’s been an unbelievable career. He knows how to get ready for a game of footy and he’s an on-field leader.
“And he is respected across the game, not just at the Wests Tigers.”
Brooks’ demotion could add weight to reports he was set to be dropped for Round 16, while Peachey is looking for a new club after being dropped to reserve grade.
Brooks has been linked with a move to the Knights or Dolphins with the Tigers having to pay a large chunk of his reported $1.3 million salary next season for him to play elsewhere.
The captaincy change is an admission by the club that there unique five captain system that was scene is farcical at the time simply didn’t work.

In all seriousness, the obvious choice for captain is Hastings. He's unquestionably the on-field leader and plays 80 minutes. I'm sure he wouldn't be intimidated speaking to officials during a game.
He may have turned it down, but my greater concern is he may not be staying.
Yes to the dropping of the 5 captains trash. But you wanting to be looking forward to next year and honestly JT will not be here, along with my Avitar 😂. Would have been better giving AD the reins, to give him some experience for the coming years. Kind of looks to me that he might be played sparingly for the rest of the season.
