I would be open to a up and coming coach if it was a string collaboration with Sheens and Sheens was heavily involved to protect the team and club until we mature, as the rebuild will take time. Whether it's a co coach or just GM/coach arrangement

In some ways it's a stronger option than handing the keys to a novice coach and seeing if they sink or swim.

Top 8 2023

I'd have no issues with Sheens taking the reins for a couple of years with a clear line of succession.

Who runs the footy department?

  • @helmesy That’s a great read , I could think of worse ..it would take real conviction from the club
to sign someone like Barnes but obviously he is respected in the game and has the ability to get the best out of a player . Sometimes the best things come out of the blue definitely the club should interview him at least !

@avocadoontoast To be frank the club needs to get its act together, it’s like everything at this club it all revolves around the past . There needs to be positive and forward thinking .. Sheens as coach please the club needs to move forward .Not just with the coach there needs to be a reboot for the whole organisation .Stop living in the PAST!

I'm not advocating him as a long term coach. But as a short term 1-2 year option, there are a lot worse options. I'd feel confident he could get things in the right direction.

Sheens as coach would be terrible for everything except nostalgia.

He's a development coach and one of the best coaches of all time. I think after 2 years at the helm the club would be in much better shape than it is now. But as I said, i'm not advocating it, I think if we can get a good coach in now we should do it, and leave him head of football.

If we can find a guy that can synchronise with Sheens in the coaching role then I think that’s the better way of doing it longterm than giving Sheens the coaching job.

Yep I agree. I think Morris as HC with Sheens helping out is a good option.

I have to think that if Morris was available it would be a done deal by now. The length of time taken is worrying me, I think we are out of legitimate candidates.

I just read something on Twitter which said his last NRL gig was more than 10 years ago at which stage his win rate was 33%. People were screaming for him to be sacked but it seems to be lost in a fog of current losses. The game has changed enormously since then (and 2005).

I am in agreement with not advocating for him - I think it sets us back rather than moving us forward. No self-respecting coach is going to want Sheens looking over their shoulder. And we need a self-respecting coach...

Sheen would be a disaster and I think the final nail in the coffin.

Im not sure if people notice but our team gets smashed in the forwards week after week after week. Two weeks ago against Bulldogs, the coaching staff respond by naming only two forwards on the bench. You reckon that is Kimmorley making that decision?
