I would be happy with Kristian Woolf or John Morris. One from left field what about Neil Herry for two years to set up the rebuild with a Ryles, Hannay or Young as his assistant coach with a view to take over after the two years.I’d be keen for Neil Henry for a couple of years too. He’s a great rebuilding coach.
I think that’s the best way going forward, keeps Sheens away from coaching side of things and will give the opportunity for the assistant coach to help with the younger players coming thru.
he has a very long coaching record and has had success in many different forms of the game. He has been an NRL assistant, successful superleague and international coach.
You've almost perfectly described the coach we just sacked.
Watson said in a recent interview that he's keen to coach in the NRL.
He also said he has unfinished business with Huddersfield and so not entertaining a move now.
These aren't mutually exclusive ambitions.
It's no different to Ciraldo saying he wants to stay another year at Penrith. Perhaps Watson wants another year under his belt, maybe he doesn't want to uproot his family or maybe he sees a premiership within reach.
The currently available options are truly uninspiring so if Watson is as good as suggested, I'm sure he'll find something.

Correct. After 3.5 years and coaching them to the bottom 4.
after watching Tigertown doco I can see why he is good at international footy or taking a top 8 team to the premiership which is all about motivation and passion. Taken a bottom 8 team to the top requires a more talented coach of actual football, and particularly working with younger players (because we struggle to recruit stars). Dropping the F word every 20 seconds and bringing a baseball bat to the pregame speech is not what we need.
personally I think Ciraldo was the right choice for the club. They just missed out on the execution and now we are left with a sub optimal choice. The reason I choose Woolf (just a guess, don’t know much about him) is that he has been coaching in all forms of the game for 20 years. In that time I presume he has seen all sorts of players and faced many different situations. I would prefer someone with the experience of seeing many situations to lead the club out of the bottom 4. I know Ciraldo wasn’t that guy, I just thought he could recruit 5 gun panthers and we could cheat out way into the top 8 whilst we rebuild the pathways.
That is an extensive list, some names in there have been out of the head coaching equation for some time. Weirdly I’m ok with that.
For me, it is important to determine the clubs identity and our philosophy to the game.
I would like to see the club return to the expansive style that got us premiership success. Yes we won, but the team were also enjoyable to watch.
Sheens, Robbie and Benji defined our clubs identity in that era and they should be included to ensure our vision and passion for the club is passed onto the current and future gereration of players.
This philosophy should be top down from pathways and into first grade.
It should also be expected that the head coach abides by that Philosphy.
So I wouldn’t be asking, do you want to coach at the club? I would be sharing the footballing vision and philosophy for the club and determining whether that coach can contribute to it.

When the club sacked the coach they were essentially saying the team was good enough to make finals but the coach wasn't. Missing Ciraldo suggests he didn't agree and he could see considerable voids in the roster.
A potential coach luring players from his existing club shouldn't be a consideration for selection. It will almost certainly end in disappointment.

Good post, I agree. We might have a somewhat muddled identity off the field, maybe we could start (or restart) with a strong on-field identity and work from there?

Great Post @mattvtiger !
Completely agree - we need to determine our identity and style of play that will get us from where we are to the top. Then find a coach that matches that.
I'd like to see us chance our arm in attack. But also think we need to find that fortitude in defence.
Top 8 2023
With no evidence whatsoever I have a feeling it's going to be Flanagan. Just a hunch.
Little whisper about a very left field option. Roosters Flegg coach Anthony Barnes
From 2018. He certainly fits the bill as a development coach.

I was certain it was going to be Morris but I think it would have happened by now if that was the case.
