Not sure about Hodgo in a coaching role. Success hasn't exactly followed him in these roles!
'This year ended in similar fashion for Hodgson’s team, winning just one of their final five games as they slid from the cusp of the finals places to a ninth-placed finish.'
Wow - does that sound somewhat familiar??
9th has never seemed so far away.
Ha - true mate!
But the last thing I want is this club yet again falling into the trap of being okay with a 9th place finish!
If there is one good thing about finishing last, it reinforces the fact that there are no upsides for our result this year, no way to deflect how poor it was by thinking or saying "well it could have been worse".
Didn't take on the head coach role for remainder of the year - in order to plan for preseason for 2023.
Only for the plans to be skuttereed through mismanagement.
As Steve says - attention to detail

Its a rubbish article, they did player reviews on Wednesday and then they have been on holidays since. Joffa is already in Fiji and both Laurie and Naden have returned home.
In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)

Yeah fair enough, I should know better.
I guess, I'm still upset that Sheens didn't take over once he decided to be head coach.
If he wanted intense preseason training, he could of started 6monyhs before Xmas- with simulated opposed sessions every weekend, in front of paying crowds and everything. Lol
Thank goodness it's the finals 😁

I’m in this camp. Start fresh Nov 1 and allow everyone (including the players) out the old coaching and systems behind them. We were gutted with injuries and seemingly we frontloaded some contracts etc to open up the salary cap. If we were bringing in Ciraldo then by all means Sheens should have been caretaker but if Sheens is the guy in the hot seat next year I am glad we gave him time to get himself and Benji ready to go

@helmesy just listened to the Furner radio interview. Thanks for posting it. Confirms that he's a very level headed and experienced Coach and how much he respects Sheens and wants to work with him. I'm sure Robbie and Benji will learn alot from him and Tim. I note his reference to the 'energy' Robbie and Benji are already bringing into the equation. I think he'll be good for WT.

I agree, he has runs on the board and a good relationship with Sheens.
Heaven knows we need some energy right through the organisation.

Furner is just another one of these assistant coaches that bounce around from club to club .. that radio interview was standard script , Sheens had a good coach already on the the books with Gardiner who already had the respect of the players young and old ! He was never going to last and has found himself a great job at the Panthers and good luck to him at least the Panthers recognise talent hence where they are . Our club is in a real mess and Jobs for the boys will only exaggerate the situation if you actually wanted success you do not part ways with a person that could actually jump start that process.. but appoint 2 assistants that even do not have coaching accreditation , I hope that you guys are not sucked into what has transpired here as you are going to be bitterly disappointed but then again when the club speaks of DNA disappointment is the strongest genetic link the club has !

Thx for the share.
Is it to early.... Safety in case Benji doesn't work out as a head coach.

Any chance he’s here for a bigger role? Like head coach?

Possible, I think it’s just good to have an experienced man there with Benji when he takes the clipboard and whistle.

Former Wests Tigers winger Beau Ryan has backed his two former teammates, Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah to excel as leaders of the club going forward.
Marshall will officially take over as head coach from 2025, with Farah set to be his lead assistant in the same year.
The pair have been working with the club alongside new coach Tim Sheens and Ryan is confident their presence will help bring more players in.
“If anyone’s going to pull them (the Tigers) out of where they are now, it’s Benji and Robbie,” Ryan said on SEN 1170 All Talk with Hello Sport.
“You need the recruitment factor, when I went to Cronulla I met with (Shane) Flanagan and a lot of former players who pushed the club.
“People aren’t doing that at the Tigers, you go and meet with the recruitment manager and the coach. That's it, you’ve got to sell the club, you have to sell the brand and what it means to people, Benji and Robbie do that better than anyone.
“I don’t think Robbie wanted to coach, to be honest, he’s a smart guy and I think eventually he’ll run the club, but I think he’s doing the right thing by helping Benji.
“They’re going to have a tough two years still and they’ll have to tread water until Benji gets there (as the head coach).”
