Again the club let’s the members down by informing them after it’s been released through its web site and the media.

They really need to implement the part where they tell the members that if you sign up you’ll have first hand information relating to the club.

I got my member exclusive email with the statement before 6.30. When did they advise the media? I'd assume you'd do it at the same time. No issue with this

Sheens has two 300 gamers on either shoulder whose loyalties are beyond question. The trio has plenty of gravitas and an ability to deal with the rabid media hounds as opposed to the vaunted but equally untried Cameron Ciraldo,of whom may have experienced very cold feet after the tsunami of speculation, negativity, and even downright pleas from some media quarters declaring it would amount to his ruination if he signed for the WTs.If that’s the case Im relieved that it didn’t transpire or we signed Flanagan on the rebound.

This was a little left of field, and Benji’s obviously eked out a pretty good deal for himself, but thinking about it I can’t help but warm to the whole idea.Under the circumstances I have to say very well done.

For the first time since sheens left in 2012 the football department will be more politically dominant in the club than the administration. Will be interesting to watch

Will be interesting to see who we sign and release for next year. Also this year seeing we have four spots open for this year.

Best of luck to Benji and co. You can’t knock someone for backing themselves.

After sleeping on it I am all too. We don’t doubt there dedication to the club it is time WE as supporters get behind these greats and management. I am putting my faith in them to sort out the politics and drive the club forward. There will be many bumps along the way for sure and it it is not going to be a sugar fix as it seems to some.
Good luck for the next five years as Benji said he learnt for Wayne Bennett is giving belief to players in themselves he has given me belief back in my club!

Do you need to be a great coach to take your team to the finals? I’m pretty sure we’d all agree that the answer is no, just need to look at some of the coaches who have got teams to the finals the past few years to understand that. But you do need to have the right people supporting you. You also need to make good choices in terms of recruitment. If you have some good young talent coming through the juniors & into NRL that’s a bonus. Obviously your football knowledge, tactics & so on has to be good as well but if you have the right players you can probably get away with the odd wrong call in that regard & still win enough games to make finals. You also need an element of good fortune with injuries etc. When it comes to the coaching appointment of Sheens & Benji do they cover all that is needed to be successful ie making finals? I think for the most part they do, certainly Benji has plenty of footy knowledge & he’ll take plenty out of learning from Sheens who covers all the areas needed to succeed. For me right now it comes back to making the right choices in recruitment & Sheens has already made arguably 2 of the best recruitment choices in Api & Papali’i that the club has made in recent years. It’ll now be very interesting to see the recruitment choices made in the next few months. Let’s see how we go.

At the end of the day, its not going to matter what us fans think of this crazy scenario. What will matter is what the other NRL players and player agents think of it and that is what this plan will live or die by. God himself can not coach this squad to success and any future success for the team, the club and Sheens/Benji will hang on their ability to attract quality players to the club.

We may get a glimpse in the next 6 months and the next 2 years will be critical to the survival of this club. IMO this is a last hail mary and if it crashes and burns it may be the end of us.

I can't believe i'm saying this but I'm going to give our front office a bit of a wrap here. They could have easily done the expected and hired Flanagan or Green or someone else and farted around for a couple of years hoping for a miracle. But instead they went for something a bit revolutionary and i'm impressed. Having a structure in place for 5 years increases our stability exponentially. Any player looking at us now will know exactly who will be coaching the team, and although he has no coaching experience Marshall is a legend of the game who every young kiwi would love to play for.

We've tried the same thing so many times and it's failed every single time. It was time for things to be shaken up and they've done that. Even if everything goes down in flames at least they had the cahunas to give it a try. It's a plan so crazy it might just work and i'm excited about WT for the first time in years.

I like the way you've put this. A positive proactive move by management.

Or.....they were knocked back by every legitimate option and had no choices left?

Which rings true?

What legitimate options exactly. The ones that most supporters on this forum couldn’t agree on for one reason or another. I for one applaud the club for thinking out side of the box is there risk involved yes but we have to try something different heaven knows nothing else has worked over the last 11 years
