Interesting that she’s saying he’s agreed terms. Assuming that means an announcement will soon follow. Interesting times ahead. Call me crazy but I’m a bit excited to see what he can do.

Tim Sheens has reportedly signed a two-year deal to take over as the head coach of the Wests Tigers.

Former coach Michael Maguire was sacked last month and after a failed bid to sign Panthers assistant Cameron Ciraldo, the club was said to have approached Sheens to gauge his interest in taking over.

The 71-year-old was employed as of head of football for the 2022 season, but will now step into the high-pressure coaching role according to SEN’s Michelle Bishop.

@jedi-tiger There is no way Benji will quit Fox it would be very unwise .. the sugar hit from the past will not last long . Sheens selections are already rubbish , jobs for the boys . Some of us do have long memories do not get excited about all of this as it’s not going to end well !

I understand your concerns but it's a pretty sure bet he'll get us going a LOT better than Madge could. I think he'll also be a bit of a drawcard to get players.

I watched a couple of games last night from 2010 and the difference in how we played back then compared to now is staggering.

@kenny4517 Do you mean like Ivan getting the sack at the club he is now back at?

If Sheen gets the job that’s it for me. It’s nothing to do with ability, it’s the whole way this saga has played out and been handled. This has been from the outset has been a “special operation”.

I had no problem with Madge being moved on, although timing was poor and not having a replacement in the bag was plain dumb, but we are talking Wests Tigers, so hardly unexpected.

The Sheens for coach has been a planned move once CC said no. Plenty of leaks to the media to set the scene, drumming up plenty of positive feedback fro past players and getting Benji and Robbie on his ticket. Fairytale stuff, the punters and media will buy it.

Sad day when dirty tricks prevail. Anyway sit back and enjoy the three wise men..Justin,Lee and shifty carve out our future

@avocadoontoast ….new game, new times. Most of the players who Sheens could pull are one step from a nursing home

Let me count the ways the Sheens deal is the wrong move.

It's a really smelly arrangement after Sheens had such a big role in bouncing Maguire. What happened to 'we need a development coach' and 'we need someone who will be here in three years'? By which time, of course, Sheens will be almost 75 years old. So quickly the reasons for decision A (sack Madge) become irrelevant to decision B (appoint Sheens).

We seemed so concerned to replace Maguire with someone with a good record, but on this measure, Sheens' record stinks. He left the Tigers with a middling record (granted, our best period, but that's not saying much), and went to the UK. He failed at Hull KR and ended up in the second teir, where he left in mysterious circumstances. Right, so would we sign a coach like Paul Green if he was struggling to coach a Qld Cup or NSW Cup club, despite having once won a premiership? Of course not.

The game moves on. Sheens has been out of NRL coaching for 10 years.

He came here as a Director of Football. That's his role, and that's where he should stay.

This club is mired in a love of nostalgia. We have been around for 23 seasons, have had little success, and it seems like the fanbase has its cold dead hands around that little success. So it is that there seems to be collective madness around the viability of a bunch of coaching has beens (Sheens) and never weres (Farah, Benji) digging us out of this hole. I would love to be wrong, but I don't think this is going to work out. It's also going to delay implementing what seemed like some sensible decisions about the club's strategic direction by a couple of years.

Yep but he was always an innovative coach. Maybe I’m feeling nostalgic but I think he’ll do a good job.

@plundermonkey …summed it up to a tee. As always we are looking in rear view mirror at our only glory day, instead of the future. We needed someone from outside the club to lead us into the future. Anyway mate, the media will love it

Appointing Sheens makes sense, the bigger issue is how we got to the point where we are having to make that appointment.

If Sheens can find some magic and we can bring the youngsters on, improve the standard of play and become more competitive we will be in a better bargaining position in a year or two, either for players or a coach.

The most important thing Sheens has to do is delegate responsibilities to his staff and not try to do it all himself, including running the football department.

After watching Benji last night on 360 my thoughts were that he was very keen and jobs like these don’t come past very often

If Benji or Robbie want to coach fantastic. But they should learn first through the lower grades not through first grade. These are really important positions that can’t be handed out on possible potential. I believe if they are first grade assistant coach it will end in tears again. The board has shown they will kick any club ledgend out to save their own positions
