Also, Nathan Brown? Please no. I watched him closely last night and he was snapped multiple times by our pack. He only made meters in the last 20 minutes when everyone was buggered which significantly flatters his stats.

Tim Sheens tells Wests Tigers he’s ready to take top job

Wests Tigers supremo Tim Sheens has indicated to the club that he is willing to step into the hot seat and coach the club next season.

Sources with knowledge of the situation told the Herald that Wests Tigers powerbrokers have approached Sheens to see if he has any interest in returning to NRL coaching a decade after he was sacked by the club.

While the Tigers are still exploring their coaching options for next year, there has been huge support from club greats for Sheens to fill the void created by Michael Maguire’s sacking earlier this season.

The club has approached Sheens to gauge his appetite and are considering offering him the job for next season.

The club knows the 71-year-old would be a short-term solution. He would help get the club back on track and mentor a group of assistants, eventually grooming one of them to take over when he finishes up in a couple of years.

The Tigers are also considering making an offer to Eels forward Nathan Brown to join the club. Brown was recently granted a release from his management company Ignite Sports, which is led by Joe and Johnathan Wehbe.

Brown, who returned to the NRL against the Tigers on Saturday night after a stint in reserve grade, is currently in discussions with other agents.

He will then sit down with the Tigers to discuss a potential return to the club.

Parramatta is unlikely to stand in his way. He has another year to run on his deal.

Sheens getting the job is such a backwards move.

While I could be convinced that this is the right move given our situation - mainly because we got knocked back by Cilardo and all other options are a risk.

But I have serious concerns how this has played out. A GM of football does a reveiw of the coach, recommends him to be sacked, leads a process to appoint a new coach - which may end up appointing himself.

It's not a transparent process which leaves you with confidence that the right decision has been made

Yeah no way should we go for Brown. He’s nowhere near the player he was

It could only happen at the Tigers.

I support the move, no issues with it at all. We’re in a dire situation and we need to get ourselves competitive quickly or else we might not survive as a club.  I think he’s the man to do it.

Very excited about this. Probably 2 or 3 years to develop an in house coach with his guidance.

We need Sheens to assist the club in developing a footballing identity that supersedes him as coach. The assistants need to be steeped in this to ensure that we don’t have a rebuild every time we lose a coach.

Personally I’d take Nathan Brown. He runs hard and we can use some more starch and experience in the middle.

So predictions for assistants? I'm guessing Kimmorely and Robbie
