I haven't really been paying that much attention to the structure of the top 8 for a while (for obvious reasons), so I was amazed to see that Canberra are actually 5th at the moment. I know it's tight, but that's as false a position I've seen in a long time at this late stage of a season.
without Api and Brooks today we get flogged
Brooks did a lot of good things out there, but as ever he is a really poor organising half. We continue to get any sort of structure on our end of sets in particular. Brooks himself getting tackled on the 5th, or passing to the edges to put in a grubber and hoping for the best. It's all very ad hoc and we won't be remotely competitive until we sort that out.
unfortunately with DCE and a fit turbo next year he will kill it at Manly. just being able to bob around and let DCE do all the organising, for 700k it is a good deal for them
Today he and Api were the only blokes having a go today without those two we would have been in all sorts of trouble. If we play like we did today we might beat the dolphins

raiders look like pretenders
so do souths they look like pretenders
sharks and parramatta look like they are just hanging on and Newcastle look average
Penrith look home this year almost unbeatable probably the best bet in a long time

@tigertownsfs and he goal kicks really good
I especially like his touch finders. It’s funny, he aims down the field rather than just directly at the sideline. Smart.
I’m still filthy about that game . What did we do wrong to the refs . Seriously this has been going on for 3 years now .
We should pay someone to dangle annnelsey out of a 10th story window or something lol joking I seriously don’t know how anyone who’s been around this game from u7s up would ever think any of those passes for their tries , went backwards . We’re the touchiest drunk ? Were they snorting lines in the toilet prior to kickoff ? I just don’t get how you can be that bad at your job .
And brooks wasn’t offside!! . Anyone who says he was has Stockholm syndrome seriously ..
Well this is what happens to teams that are running 17th/17th… home ground advantage. It’s been said before ‘the effort was there’ but it’s still a loss in our ever increasing tally. Not to worry, we may spring a surprise in our home game against the warriors 🙄🙄🤔😜I’m still filthy about that game . What did we do wrong to the refs . @lestronge with the one that led to the Kris try I think the touchie calls it forward and the ref ignores him. You can see him stop after the pass which is the indication for a forward pass.
We are a poorly run club and a poor performing team at all levels and deserve our spot on the ladder. However, I must agree that we were categorically ripped off by incredibly poor officiating. I sincerely believe that the continued dependence on technology is ruining our officials ability to officiate. Firstly there is too much going on - refs trying to make on the run accurate decisions whilst the touchie and bunker are screaming comments through their ear piece must make it hard to focus under pressure. Secondly, they are losing the ability to make accurate calls under pressure as they no longer have to do this because of the bunker. Thirdly, the inconsistencies out of the bunker are embarrassing.
I’ll also add that the focus on protecting players, whilst admirable, has gone way over the top. Rugby League is a savage sport and injuries will happen, tackles will go wrong etc. Players are faking injury now to get penalties and our refs are powerless to make a judgement call. Not good for the game imo.
@tigersteve mate it wasn’t the ref making a lot of these calls though . It’s the touchies that adjudicate on the forward passes , or are at least supposed to provide some kind of validation / counter opinion .
They literally offer nothing , and many behave like the work experience kid , where everyone is wondering what their actual point is .
The absolute worst is having to wait over a minute most times to see the “try confirmed” graphic. The bunker was there to stop the howler not to pour over every detail in slow motion to see if there is a reason to take a try away. Just get rid of the bunker for use in general play all together and give the captain 2 challenges per half but only available to challenge a try scoring play. Just let the game flow, the players mostly know when something looks suspect with a try so stop with all this over analysis.
having watched the ashes recently I think the captains challenge is by far the best use of the video ref. Even in the rugby they don’t micro analyse every try, it’s just play on unless the ref asks for the bunker to take a look and I’m rugby the referees are much more dominant, mostly they just make their call and move on without the use of video. League needs to fix it.
The lower ranked teams have always copped horrible decisions. It's because we've been cellar dwellers for so long, it appears there is a bias against us. If we ever manage to move off the bottom, the perceived bias will disappear. I do believe Refs have an unconscious bias when they officiate the bottom 4 sides.
Subconsciously they might think "why are WT winning or still in this game", the Dragons cop the same garbage we do.
I think the change back to one referee has been a real drag on the way the game is officiated. In fact most of the PVL changes have been net negatives imo.
Made the trek to watch yesterday and I thought our guys had a good dig. We certainly were not outplayed, in fact I'd say we looked the better side for most of the game - which is probably not saying much - but we always looked like we were up for it whereas the Raiders looked like they wanted to hide in for most of the last 20! They are a myth for their place in the comp.
The forward pass for their try was so obvious we could see it from the stands on the other side of the field. It is simply mind-numbing that it was missed by officials.
And I can promise that Canberra were not perfectly disciplined in the ruck, at marker or staying onside despite us not getting a single 6-again call.
But for mine, we actually had our change to win that game by seizing momentum in the first 20 but our short kicking game was very ordinary with both Laurie and Api kicking the ball dead when we had clear scoring opportunities. Raiders get their first chance with a short kick and nail it, both getting the try and a lot of momentum from that point which could easily have been ours.
I did like the way Lauire played a bit off the cuff in attack and hopefully one of our young recruits can do similar (but nail their short kicking game).
