Where will AD, Brooks and Hastings play once AD returns and into the future?

All 3 are signed under end of 2023 - meaning they can sign elsewhere from Nov this year so we need to make some big decisions over the next 3 or 4 months.

Hastings is a must, we must lock him in long term it's clear we need Hastings leadership and game control at first receiver.

AD is the other spiritual leader of the team and has been very clear he wants to play at 6. While he is also our best centre option, I'm not sure he'll stick around if it's to play centre long term and not in the spine.

Brooks is not a 7 but has had a new lease of life playing more freely at 6. His speed, kicking and defence are all valuable.

I've been fascinated for the last 6 months, where will these 3 land? Even madge said this week he isn't sure.

What's everyones thoughts???

One slightly left field option is to play Hastings as the first receiver controlling the middle with AD and Brooks both playing a 6 role on each side:

13 - Hastings as controlling first receiver but defend in middle. Plays as a 7 but defends as a 13.

7 - AD as the right side second receiver playmaker - plays as a 6 on right

6 - Brooks as the left side second receiver playmaker - plays as a 6 on left

Yeah I really don't think that would work.

@garry if you knew AD won't stay beyond next year if he's played at centre- who would you play where?

The best fit at 7 and 6, at this point with all them off contract at the end of next year, I am signing Hastings now and reevaluating in about 2 and half months.

Definitely need to lock in Hastings now on long term deal. There's at least 10 other clubs that would kill to get a controlling 7 like Hastings.

Be interesting if management look to keep only one of Brooks or AD or look to try and fit all three.

Keeping all three is also going to take up some $2.4m+ of our cap, so it's a big decision that will have ramifications across the squad.

Will be very interesting.

Personally I hope we find a way to keep all three And use it as an opportunity to play differently than other teams by having an extra playmaker

Doueihi’s return could create a selection headache for Maguire; the Tigers’ halves combination of Luke Brooks and Jackson Hastings is firing and Daine Laurie firms as the club’s long-term fullback.

Doueihi is a chance to slot into the centres, having started there on 15 occasions before, but Maguire said he had yet to make a decision about where Doueihi would play.

“I haven’t even thought about that,” he said.

“When Adam’s ready to go, we’ll assess where’s he at. Our big focus is about what we’re doing tomorrow.”

If Laurie's form doesn't improve AD @ 1 ....If it does AD @ 4 to begin with to try and ease him back into footy ......

Smh had an article outlining how much each position gets paid

The puzzle of Hastings,  Brooks and AD is critical in how much they get paid and the balance of out cap

Top 5 average of possible positions:

Halfback - $1.1m (top 5) $640k (top 6-10)

Five eighth - $760k (top 5) $480k (top 6-10)

Lock - $840k (top 5) $670k (top 6-10)

Centre - $615k (top 5)  $475k (top 6-10)

Depending where they move they may be asking for a pay rise or getting  paycit and may look elswhere

Brooks -

- reportedly on over $1m next year

At $1m at 7 he's one of the highest paid halfbacks

If he moves to 6 - could go to around $5-600k

Could look to play 7 elsewhere and seek around 6-700k

Alternatively  we could get Munster at 6 for brooksy salary

AD

- reportedly on 625k

If goes to 6 he's current pay would be appropriate

If goes to centre he'd be in the top 3 paid centres in the comp

If goes to lock could seek an upgrade to around $700k

Hastings

- assuming on around $400k???

If he stays at 7 he could seek around $7-850k

If goes to lock could seek around tbe same.

So I'd assume based on the above

Hastings would get a major upgrade going from around $400k to $7-850k and can play either 7 or 13

AD would be a minor upgrade from $625k to sat $650k and could play centre, 5/8 or lock

Brooks moving to 5/8 requires a big pay cut going from $1m to $5-600k. However he may seek to go elsewhere to play 7 and earn more

Our cap across the 3 players would stay about the same as Hastings payrise is covered by brooksys pay cut
