This thread could go in either the NRL or WT's thread ...so if you want to move it feel free MODs

You look not only at the WT's but many clubs at the moment and they have a huge list of injured players who are outside backs primarily with knee , ankle and soft tissue issues and then you see the depth in those positions is pretty limited ..in a sense having Garner in the centres has definitely helped sure up our defence

I guess there are many different questions in this post thread ......

1/Why are so many centres and wingers getting injured particularly the last 2 seasons

2/ Are clubs more concerned with the forwards and spine to have ample back up in the back 5

3/ Why aren't their more injuries in the forwards compared to backs

4/ Have the surfaces these blokes been playing on deteriorated that much because of the amount of footy and weather

5/ Are the training surfaces up to scratch ...eg Concord

Thoughts ..it has affected us as much as any club this season ...having Talau , Douehi and AJ all available definitely impacts the Warriors , Titans and Stains games

Don't think the answer to any of those questions mean much..Injuries are part and parcel in Rugby League not ideal ...next man up mentality provides opportunity ..so far blokes like To'a, Garner, Seyfarth, Twal have lifted performances...

This s what top Clubs do..

Keep building.

That's a good point. I reckon it might just be a bit of bad luck. You could also maybe make an argument that the game is more focused on forwards, momentum up-front etc. than the classic outside back so maybe the clubs are investing more there?

Looking at our stocks for 2022 follows along that same line of thought - we have more depth/options in the forwards than the backs (especially in terms of NRL experience).

46 players injured that are backs ...which is almost 3 per club as per the start of the round

I can't ever remember that amount of backs injured

That’s a crazy stat, not sure if it’s an anomaly because it seems to get worse every year. I don’t remember injuries being so common 20-30 years back. Can’t be the playing surface or the sports science which are so much better now. Maybe the players are getting too big and the speed has gone up too much needing a real power game.

Has to be the speed, strength and added skills (like the wrestle moves etc) that are the difference.

You’re right about the old days, a season ending injury was pretty rare.

Even now it is such a devastating injury, seem to be getting much more frequent.

In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)

Exactly ..how many players have now had multiple ACL's ....we have 3 players with 2 ACL's from memory
