Update from the Pom:
Following this weeks recruitment & retention meeting.
Nikora’s delayed/lacking response to the club has been brought to ahead following his management asking for an increase per year on our offer. He’s been given a take it or leave it response with no reply so far, another Sharks back rower in Jack Williams & Matt Doorey from the Bulldogs have been discussed as a target should this not eventuate.
Franklin Pele also appears to be a no go either due to higher offers elsewhere & focus has now turned to J’Maine Hopgood from the Panthers.
Jack Bird is a genuine option from the clubs point of view at the right value but they get the feeling we aren’t a genuine option for Jack, his management using us to hurry up the Dragons, not to say if the right offer comes in it might sway him, but don’t see this going much further.
Joe Ofahengaue has taken up his option for 2023.
Can confirm Sione Fainu is a top 30 player for 2023.
Only a handful of spots remain for the squad next year & lack of genuine targets has the club sitting back with money to spend & see who gets restless.
Sheens is hoping to pull a fast one on the Eels & securing the services of a young winger named Matthew Komolafe.
In relation to RE-signings as it stands only Tommy Talau has a 1 year contract in front of him & Jock Madden is negotiating with the club, the rest are free to find new homes.
Mikaele almost seems certain to be heading to the Dolphins.
Tuki Simpkins & Jacob Liddle have permission to look elsewhere.
Final top 30 spot is being saved for an outside back, the wait & see approach will come to ahead with this in the next 2-3 weeks as it must be filled by June.
Outside back depth/strike power the main focus for remaining 2023 spots, Tex Hoy has been offered to the club by his management.
Thanks Declan

Top 8 2023
@frullens yes, it looks like it might be a bit quiet on the recruitment front for 2023 at least. I would expect the club to re-sign one of Tumeth and O’Kane as well due to the backrow depth issues we’re having.
I wonder what has happened with Tuki Simpkins.
He looked like he was raw but in the club's plan for the future. Considering the back row situation, he must have dropped off big time.
Anyone heard anything?

I reckon Sheens isn’t a fan

Looked weirdly disinterested in the Jets game a few weeks back... all makes sense now.

From that list it looks like we are losing seven players and gaining three. So we have 4 spots to fill for 2023 ?

Shame about the Nikora/Pele situation.
Not fussed about Bird.
Glad JoeO has taken the option, he seems really invested in the team and this confirms it!
Was really disappointed with Mikaele's effort last game, he's the opposite to JoeO.
And we've obviously decided Simpkin is our jnr hooker for the future, no problem with that either.
so it looks like we're probably not signing anyone?

Looks like the Manly prop and some internal promotions at this stage.

Jack Williams very disciplined, high work ethic, strong defence, good leg drive & good example setter for younger guys, at very least good backup 2nd Row/Lock. Would do well under coach like Madge.
Hopgood and the young winger from the Eels would be excellent acquisition’s young and loads of talent, Hopgood is pretty quick for a second rower/ lock.
Don’t know much about the bulldogs second rower apart from went to school with Talau and was coached by Wayne Lambkin.
Tex Hoy would be okay for this year and next year only.
thoughts about Evan Aitken joining us, as a back rower.
@kenny4517 I like the potential signing. Good ball runner than seems really solid in defense that can cover center and doesn’t block Blore if he returns well from injury well.
try and get Aitken here this year if we can as apparently he is not keen to to NZ anyway. Would fix our centre problems and can also be utility from bench, better Signing than Bird

The radio commentary were giving him really big wraps on his switch to back-row during their call of the last game.
