@anygivensunday so they can go over the salary cap they just need to pay tax on it ?
still think the idea of having 800k in your cap (Brooks mmbye) playing elsewhere not a good idea as that cheap 300k player is really 700k due to the fact you need to cost the money already going out of the cap
Full freight for Brooks is a different story
NFL, NBA, NHL hard salary cap just like NRL.
MLB luxury tax, tax reaches a point for every $10million a team spends on players they have to give a further $8million to league as penalty for such high spending.
I'll use round figures and have no idea if salary accurate.
As a hypothetical for everyone, would you have pulled the trigger if the outcome was the following?
Brooks offloaded to Knights before Season 2022, Knights pay 50% of his $1 million a year salary. We pay the remainder and it sits on our cap till end 2023.
The $500k a year freed up however allows us to upgrade/extend Luci and Tuilagi and they resign with Tigers for 3-4 years rather than lose them as has happened.
Start Season 0-5 with Madden and Hastings and some random filling in while Jackson is suspended, just as we have gone 0-5 with Brooks.
Don't get bogged down in the players chosen, money, etc,
I'm just trying to explain the concept and potential outcomes of dealing with an albatross contract as observed from following US sports.
Thanks for the mention on the Pod, very humbling.
@pod-steve, paying Brooks to move on is not saying Madden, AD, Hastings are the answer, they possibly won't be, it's merely saying Brooks is not the answer so every dollar we can salvage from his contract is better spent finding the answer.
As @pod-declan observed this roster strategy really leans towards developing the players from within, as the reduced cap will limit open market signings.
Avoiding signing players to long overpriced contracts should be the ultimate goal of management to avoid all of above headaches.
if next year we are not paying Mmbye's 400k to play for saints then if we move Brooks on and we are only stumping up 400k then that is ok I guess.
Don't care who the player is we can't have 800k in players being played to play elsewhere
if we can explore the option of paying Brooks 2023 salary in 2022 then that is good business as we can't attract anyone this year anyway. What room we have in the cap pay Brooks now so maybe 2023 we are only needing to sell Brooks for 700k. Even if we keep Brooks for 2023 (which we should) it means in 2023 we can go after another player in 2023
@avocadoontoast we have no guarantee how Douhie will return and Madden is not the answer. We need to see how Brooks goes with Hastings maybe he fires and then Douhie if he comes back plays centre.Problem is some fans no matter how well brooks plays will always fine fault and the grass is greener with Madden. The only acceptable move for brooks would be if we could land Munster then you play Douhie elsewhere in the team.
We are better front loading 2023 salary for brooks with what we have now than selling him off without a chance at playing 6 with Hastings.
Sell Liddle and Madden off and keep nrl experience
Luch apparently asking for an immediate release. Can't see anything happening until Pascoe is back from his Contiki tour.
Anyone got access to the story? What are they offering in return?

We saw how Brooks played with Hastings in the opening rounds. He was dreadful.
Madden was quite poor but he was still better than Brooks and on about 20% of the money. Brooks has completely lost it as a footballer, and shouldn’t be in first grade at the moment. AD with one leg amputated offers more in attack than Brooks.

I think I’m starting to see where a lot of the problems are coming from.

A renegotiation of the final year of Brooks contract and extension to make him a one Club 300+ game player in the cards

With Lee, Pascoe and Madge we never had a chance as a club.

Lol they'd be lucky to keep 1000 members if that happened.

It is just an ever changing market ...Knights have approached NRL about Milford ...they also signed a real good up and coming half from Mt Isa on Tuesday ...having a mental blank to his name
@avocadoontoast But we have Douhie Avo

Legal advice and buckets of the Fried Chicken ....
@jedi-tiger id have AD and Hastings as our halves. It won’t make a huge diff though, we need massive changes to our roster
