are we getting townsend ?
Nothing reported on that at that the moment.
he should go this year if cowboys have room, we can use the cash elsewhere
yeah we've got plenty of halfback options....lets get rid of one this year.
he is injured for 6 weeks anyway
So when did you plan to send him to NQ? you think we should wait until we actually have a halfback option available before we get rid of it?

We can't spend the money we already have.
if cowboys take him now can we not take Brooks remaining salary and use it and to bump up tupou or TDS etc?
I’m not a fan of front loading contacts. It doesn’t work because players have short memories.
i agree with you, but we have to spend 95% of the cap each year (NRL Rules) and I am not a fan of spending $11M on $8m-$9m worth of roster, so for the last few years Im glad they are frontloading as the alternative is to over spend on our rubbish roster. Clearly the roster is getting better but still not there year (stating the obvious we need some halves).

My point was more in response to Jedi saying we should let Brooks go now to use the money. I don't think we could use it if we tried, I'd think we already will be frontloading contracts.
In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)
All the best Luke. Now where is that 6 & 7 we need coming from?
Looks like it’s happening.
Serious question:
Why would a player agree to be front loaded?
Wouldn't they pay a higher tax rate on the front loaded year?
And then they would have less weekly income on the reduced year, when usually the mortgage repayments and weekly expenses stay the same
I know it feels like monopoly money, but these decisions have real life impacts -
just interested if anyone knows more detail from a player perspective?

they sure do but I am worried the big clubs will try and poach the likes of bula, tupou and Stef

I don’t think it happens as much as we think.
Valid points Re tax, I guess the advantage to a player might be that it might be a deposit on a house or the like.

@helmesy I thought it was just a clerical change? A way that the money is balanced in the cap eg. The over age loyalty payment .
The taxman wouldn’t give 2 sides of Sunday whether 150k of it doesn’t apply to the cap or not .
They would only care what the Gross income is eg. Luke brooks 1.1m .
It’s a sports administration thing. Not an ATO thing . As far as I know .
So why couldn’t you balance the cap to suit whatever you need to .
Otherwise , how do players leave early , come across early have payments split and stretched across years, between businesses ,if it required real input from the ATO.
Maybe the money is paid at a different rate to the cap ie the idea is that you on average are within cap but the physical cash payment isn’t changed so there is no tax impact

Makes so much sense on so many levels. NQ would love to pay for Lukes rehab and have him on their sidelines under their cap and our revolutionary no halfback style of play can finally be unleashed.
