TIGERS LOCK IN ROBERTS

The Tigers have officially handed James Roberts a top 30 deal. The Tigers enticed James Roberts back through a train and trial deal during summer but the ex-NSW centre has impressed enough to be given a full-time contract.

Roberts’ joined the Tigers last season on a cut-price deal. He played 11 matches in the top grade for the Tigers. Roberts is the 29th player contracted to the Tigers for next season, leaving them with one roster spot to fill.

This is so disappointing. I don’t care how small a contract he is on. I don’t care how little ball he received this season. He’s not up to it.

I cannot for the life of me work out where this war chest we had for 2022 is gone?

It hasn't gone, we just haven't been able to spend it.

@tigertownsfs I may be on my own here but I’m still hoping Musgrove fills that spot. Still think injury free and focussed he has a lot to offer and would be a good partner for Stef.

I think @tigersteve agrees with you on that.

@garry Me too.

I'm hoping musgrove can step up to be our forward leader.

Didn't get to see much of him this year.  He has a lot to prove.

The more our existing players step up and improve, like the Ute did, the better players we can attract.

Musgrove, blore, tuilagi, talau, kepaoa, seyfarth, Hastings - all have an opportunity to set up and prove they are competitive 1st grade players

Top 8 2023

100% agree. Hopefully he is injury free and is fitter so he can handle the middle defensively. With controlled aggression he can be a real leader in our pack

I’ve lost faith in him at this point Steve, he needs to repay us for the faith we’ve continually shown in him.

Hope they all step up but I think only 2/3 will and Musgrove won’t be one. He will be about as useful as Roberts but I do hope I have to eat my words

I think the signing of Roberts is an indication that there are not many decent centres on the market that the team is willing to chase. Signing him to fill a spot and hope for the best.

In regards to the war chest, seems that we have spent a decent amount of it for 2023 but there would be plenty sitting there for 2022.

Maybe time to front-load? How much does everyone think we have left??

@helmesy I thought he was an underwhelming signing but was willing to give him a chance. I’ve pretty much given up on him now post the Manly game. One of the worst performances I’ve seen

Yeah Musgrove needs to do a lot to wipe my memories of the game against Manly.

I think it shows how much we chased cotric and wanted him on board.

A lot of people think Roberts is a great signing because he is on a small contract. Personally I disagree, I would rather see a kid given a contract that has potentially a long career in front him. Just think the Jet is grounded

Certainly not a great game from him was it, I had such high hopes at the start of season for him after the All Stars game, I thought he was strong and aggressive in that match.

Does anyone know how many games he’s managed to string together since he started with us? Hopefully with some continuity we will see him find some form.
