I find it interesting the Panthers are signing a young Broncos backrower, having already signed young Zak Clarke from us. Obviously understand the importance of sourcing talent from outside their system. but they have Geyer & Hassett in their squad already, I think Hassett is still there. They’ve got Ice, Garner & Sorenson of course. Sorenson likely last year this year. He’ll be 33 next year but at present only played 121 NRL games. I think he’d be worth a one or two year contract, would be a great trainer, plenty experience & a terrific guy to help bring along young fellas like Sukkar, Duncombe & Godinet.
Might even be worthwhile offering a player for Sorenson or Hassett. Maybe a centre from us for one of those guys. I doubt they’d release Sorenson but might release Hassett especially given they’ve bought two young backrowers into their club.I find it interesting the Panthers are signing a young Broncos backrower, having already signed young Zak Clarke from us. I'd take Sorenson for sure. I wonder though if Papalli'i plays in the middle for them this year?

Ice tended to do well here in the middle but when playing outside Moses did well at Eels. I guess he could be used either way over there with Cleary at half. Where would you use him if you were Ivan? Garner and Sorensen would feel disappointed losing their spot to him you’d think. With JFH moving on it seems like that’s where they are most in need.
I’m more leaning towards Bird playing right edge for us, I think we have other options at lock and Seyfarth is better off the bench imo.

Agree with Panthers a little light in middle but they do have guys who can step onto that role, Geyer could for instance. I’m not a huge fan of Bird on the edge as I recall looking at his stats once when he was at the Sharks playing centre & he missed tackles, not sure if that’s improved & maybe it was not all that telling. Anyway, prefer him sharing 13 role at present but could go either way.Ice tended to do well here in the middle but when playing outside Moses did well at Eels. If this hasn’t been posted elsewhere I’m surprised it hasn’t been celebrated already on this forum in the past 24 hours.
The 2025 Nsw cup side is such a step up from last year. I’m seriously impressed. Players like Kurt Falls and Joe Lovodua are as good as you’d hope to sign for that level.
Lovodua is an outstanding utility and I always felt he left for the UK too soon.
I think he went off the rails over there as he ended up playing second tier but in his first year with Brett Hodgson as coach he was regularly winning man of the match honours.

There’s a decent chance some of these second tier guys are called upon. It wasn’t long ago we were dragging Will Smith and Brandon Wakeham off the street remember!
I wonder if the club has thought of looking at a swap kind of deal if they want another edge player. The Panthers could probably do with another prop so the thought occurred to me to maybe see if they’d be interested in Klem. I’d imagine Klem would be ok with it, he lives out that way & he’d be playing at a very successful club, maybe a last chance at a premiership. If they were willing to release Hassett & pay about $400,000-450,000 of Klem’s contract it’d mean they get him for $150,000 or thereabouts. We’d get a good, young edge who would have more of a chance at NRL & we’d probably save about $100,000 I’m guessing. Just a thought.
I see a lot of love for Hassett on this and other forums. I don't think I have ever seen him play. Is he really that good? I don't think he has played a single game of first grade. if he is that great than I'm pretty sure Panthers are not letting him go as they have a few 2nd rowers that are getting long in the tooth and he will probably be required soon.
Don't we also have some young guns around the same age as Hasset? Phoenix Godinet and Archie Duncombe?
Archie is 19 this year & Phoenix 18, both still about 2 years away from a start if they get there. Hassett I think is 21 this year so has a couple of extra years on them & has been playing Cup in their great system last season and a half behind some very good backrowers. Dolphins wanted him a year ago but Panthers upgraded his contract apparently.Don't we also have some young guns around the same age as Hasset? Phoenix Godinet and Archie Duncombe?
I also haven’t seen him but he did play u 19s NSW with Samuela & Latu I think. Bennett apparently was keen to sign him last year but fell through. The Panthers tend to not bring guys through too quickly if they’re ok in the positions those kids play, most of their forwards debut 20-21. Guess that could be said at most clubs. He’s probably on about $250,000-300,000 this year which isn’t a lot & suggests average kind of player but if you are 20 and offered that at Panthers and $50,000 more at Tigers or Dolphins what would you do?I see a lot of love for Hassett on this and other forums. Really only suggesting possibilities. Personally I’d prefer a very experienced edge but not sure just how much of a possibility that is right now. As Klem is near the end of his career, has that option for next year, lives out west & Panthers could do with another middle and Hassett was talked about possibly leaving previously I thought this could be possible.I also haven’t seen him but he did play u 19s NSW with Samuela & Latu I think.
