SMH reporting Storm are not happy with B Smith and might look to cut him early.

I’d take him for a year if the Roosters can’t fit him in for 2022.

I like that idea

Wests Tigers are pleased to announce the signing of young outside back Junior Tupou, effective immediately, for the next three seasons.

Tupou will join the NRL squad on a deal that will see him wear Wests Tigers colours until at least the end of the 2024 NRL season.

A New South Wales U/16’s and U/18’s representative player, the 19-year-old played SG Ball for the Canberra Raiders before linking up with rugby union outfit, the Brumbies, for the past year, which also saw him selected for the Junior Wallabies in 2021.

Tupou said he was excited for the opportunity to sign with Wests Tigers.

“When the chance came up to join Wests Tigers, I jumped at the opportunity,” Tupou said.

“I’m really excited for it. I’m looking forward to joining the squad for pre-season training this week and I can’t wait to pull on the Wests Tigers jersey.”

Wests Tigers Coach Michael Maguire said he was pleased to secure Tupou on a long-term deal.

“Junior is a bright young talent and we’re pleased to see him back on a rugby league field with Wests Tigers,” Maguire said. “Junior will be a great addition to the talented young squad that we’re building, and I look forward to him joining the team for pre-season.”

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe congratulated Tupou on his new deal.

“On behalf of all at Wests Tigers, I’d like to welcome Junior to Wests Tigers,” Pascoe said.

“Junior has shown a great excitement to return to rugby league and we’re all looking forward to watching him take next steps in his development in Wests Tigers colours.”

Tupou will link up with the club immediately as he begins pre-season training with the squad.

He seems to go OK from his junior footage from Raiders.

I don't think the club is sold on Hoffman or Kei so extra depth is good I guess

Made the under 18’s origin squad in 2019 and was picked in the junior wallabies squad in 2020 ( I assume they didn’t play anyone because of covid). A 3 year deal and straight into the top 30 would suggest the club is keen on him so fingered crossed.

Well he quotes Sheens in the article so there seems to be some merit to it.

I thought he signed back with the Raiders, or did I just dream that?

The Wests Tigers have emerged as a left-field contender to sign ex-NSW and Australian flyer Nick Cotric.

Fox Sports has learned Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire and director of football Tim Sheens met with the Canterbury-Bankstown outside back over the weekend and remain in negotiations to orchestrate an immediate release.

Initially the Canberra Raiders were the early favourites for Cotric to return to the national capital but the Tigers interest is now gaining serious momentum.

Tigers director of football Tim Sheens confirmed the club was in negotiations with Cotric’s agent Sam Ayoub.

“It’s certainly nowhere near being done but we’ve met with the lad and Madge likes what he could add to the roster,” Sheens said.

“We’re not the only club at the table so we’ll just have to let it take its course and see how it plays out.”

Tigers recruitment boss Warren McDonnell has spoken to Bulldogs general manager Phil Gould about the prospect of Cotric switching to Concord.

Cotric, 23, joined Canterbury-Bankstown in November of 2020 and has two years remaining on a deal believed to be worth around $650,000-a-season.

But with the Bulldogs looking to reshape the club’s roster for 2023 and beyond the ex-NSW and Australian winger has been given permission to negotiate with rival clubs.

The Canberra Raiders are still in the equation but with the Tigers armed with a $1 million war chest and three spots available in the club’s top 30 for 2022 there’s a view they could blow the Raiders out of the water.

Top 8 2023

If we can get Cotric and still snag Hodgson somehow 2022 is looking a LOT better.
