All this speculation has had me thinking, what would I expect to change this year with a change of coach? I wouldn't expect massive improvement in attack or defence to be honest. Typically, I would generally hope for an increase in effort and commitment and I my memory of the change over from Taylor this was the hope and what we got.

Trouble is, I think the effort and commitment is there already right now. Sure there could be better strategy, tactics, use of the bench etc, but these things arent going to manifest in a week, they will need best part of a year and definitely an offseason to kick in.

My point being, I dont see a new coach getting more effort or commitment out of the team where as we did with previous changeovers.

How many of the other clubs are having a mid season review ...answer nil

You can put that down to a dysfunctional board and our basic charter. The very purpose of a board is to scrutinise and direct policy, and calling for a mid season review in a sense is an admission of its own shortcomings.Having said that,Rugby League is an inexact science,a high collision, heavy impact sport. You can’t be applying KPIs and business principles to the horrendous run of injuries we’ve endured.

In my opinion it’s pretty damned obvious as to where we’re at.It’s so rudimentary, and applying a mid season review is bordering on the laughable.

My summation is we started the year with an injury compromised squad and through the course of the year we’re further compromised by it.In a nutshell that’s basically it(while we wait for the ACLs to mend).

I’m highly optimistic that when the injury pendulum swings we’ll see a major turnaround, and to me the sacking of Madge would be absolute madness as to the potential effect it might have on our squad. We have a halfback!!And don’t compromise that,at our peril.

I’m seeing a great rebuild right here, right now......do we really want to go back to the drawing boards?

Great post

I can just hear it now: “so Tigers finished 14th in 2023 but to be fair our coach needs to build his own roster. We hope to make the eight by 2026

In all likelihood 14th in 2023 will be an improvement on 2022.

I am really in the middle with regards to what we should do, I would give him till the end of year to see if we can keep progressing forward, but if Sheens says it is time to go then I am not going to complain as Madge hasn't done a lot to instill confidence that he is going to turn this around. He has got us putting in but that needs to continue to improve, the game on Saturday concerns me as it was the effort areas that were poor and I hope that isn't the start of a downturn in that area.

I can definitely understand the people that have had enough and would like change now, Madge has been given a lot of time.

My problem is we are relying on Sheens ...wasn't that long ago many wanted to see him get the guillotine ....players included ....yet now he is Saviour and the Great Man .....what was that Midnight Oil ...Short Memory ...must have a Short Memory

Top 8 is panthers, storm, cowboys, broncos, eels, roosters, sharks, rabbits.

Hard to see where the opportunity is for Ciraldo there. Maybe eels in a few years if they fall away after this year or rabbits if the Bennet hangover lasts longer than a year or two?

bottom 8 are dragons, raiders, sea eagles, warriors, knights, titans, tigers, bulldogs.

some definite opportunities there but the question is which one is better than Tigers? Sticky and Hasler will stick around and then you are left with the basket case clubs. At the very least you could say Tigers is a quite stable (maybe too stable) club now and we are pursuing a juniors led strategy in western Sydney. Maybe if he moved to tigers now we are still 12 months away from really challenging for the 8 but we have cleared most of the dead wood on the roster and else have money to spend. We have Naden, Laurie, Api and Tamou which gives him some panthers connection and we have a crop of decent players in the squad and a genuine half. Its not impossible that Ciraldo buys the dream…..

If Cilardo is looking to move to a bottom 8 club - you'd think he'd go for the Bulldogs.

He has worked under and with Gould for years. And has Burton, Kikau, Hetherington from panthers, even TPJ played at pentrith for 6 months.

Not sure I'd hang everything off getting Cilardo.

Not a bad point Frullens, my guess might be though that Gould has someone else lined up.

I would strongly prefer to keep Madge for the reasosn I've already explained.

But if they do decide to move him on - I'd much prefer Woolf over Cilardo.

He's an up and coming coach - BUT someone who has experience as a first grade coach in super league, at St Helens - winning 2 grand finals and 1 challenge cup in the 2 years he's been coach.

Plus what he's done with Tinga is amazing and would help to attract some great pacific talent.

But then again he's pretty much a younger version of madge

(actually just checked that - he's only 2 years younger! Madge is 48 and Kristian is 46!)

Top 8 2023

Has anyone considered that Ciraldo might not go to Bulldogs because he has previously worked under Gould. Gould didnt exactly leave Penrith on the best terms.

I personally don’t have a strong view Madge vs Ciraldo vs Wolfe etc. I just can’t believe someone as sophisticated in rugby league politics as Tim Sheens would call Michael Chammas and Phil Rothfield on a Sunday after a disappointing loss, raising the prospect of Madge being sacked when everyone assumed he had all year after surviving last years review, without already knowing the outcome of the new review and presumably having a good idea of who would replace Madge

This is only an educated guess - but my guess is:

- The faction of the board who wants madge gone -moved for a reveiw from Sheens to be presented to the board

- someone in that faction leaked it to the media

- media called the club to get the story - who directed all enquiries to Sheens

- Sheens called back the journos and had to somehow manage the fire that the board started.

If Sheens wanted madge gone- there no way he'd go about it in this public and drawn out manner

Top 8 2023

another more plausible scenario (IMO) is that one of the outcomes of the review carried out at the end of last season was that they would review Madges performance at the halfway point this year. We are at that point. It may have always been the policy coming out of last years review. If we were 6W or more the review would probably be pretty quick, but we are at 3W's (yes I know there have been a LOT of injuries).

Personally, I'd be amazed if Freddie was that stupid. I agree with you though that the fact that they are in no rush to announce would make sense if it was Freddie.

I have always thought that it would be Ciraldo for Dogs (Penrith link).
