If we can get Ciraldo, I think it becomes an easy decision to move Madge on.

Agreed and I voted to keep Madge. If Ciraldo said yes, I'd say thanks Madge, goodbye.

Lots of talk about Ciraldo. Can I ask: apart from being the media’s current darling, what has he actually accomplished as a coach?

It concerns me sometimes that we start to believe something to be true just because it’s repeated relentlessly by the media.

He was NYC coach of the year in 2015 and 2016 winning 2 minor premierships and one premiership, has won more NRL finals matches than Maguire in the last 5 years. He has a pretty  good lower grade coaching record but had some very good players in those teams. Was heavily involved in the Penrith pathways system and the Panthers Academy, that has produced some outstanding players. As a fulltime coach, who knows but he does have some good credentials.

The same was said about Garth Brenann

Newcastle NYC Head Coach

- 2011 - made finals for first time

Panthers NYC Head coach

- 2012 - took to finals first year - named NYC coach of the year

- 2013 - coach NYC to first premiership

Panthers NSW Cup

- 2014 - coached NSW Cup premiership

- 2017 - coached NSW Cup premiership

Panther NRL side

- 2016 - become NRL assistant

Gold Coast NRL side

- Oct 2017 - appointed Gold Coast NRL Head coach

- July 2019 - terminated

Barrett much the same story - expect he's had 2 cracks at it.

Adam O'Brien was also the next big assistant at the Roosters- struggling at Knights

Being an assistant at a great team- is very different to being Head coach of a bottom 8 team

One year as a NRL assistant, under Griffin (in his first year) is very different to Ciraldo's FIVE years as assistant coach, four of which were under probably the best system in the NRL (current Cleary era).

Also in Ciraldos tenure as a NYC coach, his teams didnt just win, they dominated winning 20 of 24 and then 18 of 24. He one the minor premiership both years he coached NYC and was coach of the year both years he coached NYC. Since then he has had pretty much the best training you could get.

There is a reason why there is so much hype around him as the next coach in waiting and I would be very happy to take the chance on him as a rookie coach.

For me its Ciraldo or Madge for 2023.

Ciraldo should help us recruit the next generation of panthers players that are blocked

Like Blore, Laurie & Naden? 😁

But seriously, are we picking a coach ion their ability to attract players from other well run clubs?

I thought we are aiming to be a development club that creates our own players?

and how is that working out?

All this speculation has had me thinking, what would I expect to change this year with a change of coach? I wouldn't expect massive improvement in attack or defence to be honest. Typically, I would generally hope for an increase in effort and commitment and I my memory of the change over from Taylor this was the hope and what we got.

Trouble is, I think the effort and commitment is there already right now. Sure there could be better strategy, tactics, use of the bench etc, but these things arent going to manifest in a week, they will need best part of a year and definitely an offseason to kick in.

My point being, I dont see a new coach getting more effort or commitment out of the team where as we did with previous changeovers.

How many of the other clubs are having a mid season review ...answer nil

Canterbury have recently completed theirs.....

With all the talk around Ciraldo I’m starting to think he was the plan all along. He wanted to see out his contract last year so we gave Madge more time - but now supposedly Ciraldo’s interest has increased so we’re eager to make the change.

I think Ciraldo's interest may have increased around the time Cleary signed a 5 year deal at the Pamfers........coincidently around the same time as Madge sparked some life in us.

Given we only started doing it 1-2 years ago. I'd say it's too early to tell. Having a Harold Matts side winning the comp and a Flegg side likely to be in the top 4 is a good sign though.

Ha...yep. Initially when I heard about the review I was worried/saddened because I can see improvements that Madge is making and think Madge deserves to see if he can benefit from them. But.....if we could institute actual change by appointing Ciraldo, Im on board and I actually think that in his quiet moments Madge would agree with it because I actually think Madge is the coach who has most genuinely cared about this club since Pearce.

If they confirmed Madge for the next 18months or even the end of the season now I'd feel a little disappointed, but fully expect the Tigers to announce Matt Parish as the new coach after a week of Ciraldo speculation.

This is what it comes down to. Does Ciraldo want to make the next step and become a NRL coach, and most likely it will need to be at a struggling club because the good ones have a lock on their coaches. Sure he'd get a free pass from the Board of his new club and the media for a while, but it won't last if the results don't improve. In other words there is a lot of risk and potential reputational damage for someone like Ciraldo, and it might be better to stay as an assistant of a strong sustainable club no doubt on good money.

I voted to keep Madge, but if Sheens thinks we are better off going with Ciraldo then i'd be fine with that.

@tiger5150 Trust me a new coach will get a huge rise out of this bunch ! This is not that bad a roster ..

If they appointed a new coach now - they'd look like like a genius- as from this week on we have almost our full squad available for the first time this year.

Mind you if they stick with madge, he'll also look like a genius.

It always helps to have your best players in your team

Our strongest team of the year was on Saturday and we got absolutely creamed.

I didn't realise the AD, Twal, Nofa and Talau were playing.

Was our strongest team of the year and we conceded 44 points. Souths were missing Latrell Mitchell.

Straight facts.

Cherry picked facts, ignoring others. But we get you don’t like Madge.

I've got nothing against him personally, he just can't coach.
