we can play rua after round 10 can't we even if he is not top 30 ?

I believe so if the rule is the same as last year.

With Liddle out for 4-6 weeks, you can't wait until round 10.

We didn't buy peachy to play hooker, we paid him to pay ball-playing lock which everyone agrees is a huge gap we need to address. So playing peachy/simpkin for 6 games won't improve us.

@garry I know you're worried about too high expectations on Rua. I'm not expecting anything more than what he can do. For 6 games, he's kind of got a free roll of the dice. After then, I'd expect liddle and simpkins to be hookers with rua back in reserves, only coming in to fill for injuries.

Unless of course, rua is the cheese reincarnated, and he kills it in his first 6 games, and cements his spot in the team. Either way, it's good, and much better than playing peachy at hooker for the first 6 games.

I would probably upgrade Rua and run him off the bench round 1 now that Liddle is injured, but I don't think the club will do that.

Out of the 23 players that played on the weekend, Rua and Dias were the only one not in top 30 or development

You'd think they played him because they were interested in him? If we are building from within, let's build from within

WT management lately have been pretty good at surprises

Having a spot up your sleeve is a luxury which really nice to have

But we are starting the year with:

- our best player out for half the season,

- our best up and coming 2nd rower out for the full season

- at least one starting centre out for most of the season

- and now our starting hooker out for the first 6 games

All this with a pretty thin squad.

We need the best team we can put on the field from day 1.

If we struggle for the first 6 games (as could be expected given the above injury list) and many in the media would have the coached sacked, then the season is out the window and the whole trajectory for the club changes, again.

I don't disagree with any of that.

More I think it, Peachey has to play 13. We’ve over the last 3 seasons tried playing Mbye and Reynolds as makeshift number 9’s and failed miserably. Also something Joel said earlier that we must be due for a diamond in the rough. Go with youth I say and give Rua a crack.

If you think of it as we swap Huffman for Rua - then I think it's very smart business

Couldn’t agree more re playing makeshift types like Mbye and Reynolds at 9.Disastrous..

I can’t recall in recent years any junior WTs player announcing himself the way Rua has.He hasn’t just politely knocked on the selection door,he’s banged on it,ripped it off its hinges and demanded his place at the table.

I know there is a counter argument in that he hasn’t played against men,as Garry mentioned in the podcast wash up,and that does have some validity, but Rua Ngatikaura is a natural.I’ll go with the old adage,if you’re good enough you’re old enough. With Jacob out,put him out there for a stint against the Storm.Could be a home grown cult figure for our team in the making. We need a bit of that to get the turnstiles clicking. How does this sound,Ruthless Rua!Go Ruthless!
