I have to absolutely disagree with this. Benji needs to stay and sort the mess out he was left with. He gets a full pass this year, regardless of where we come or how we perform on the field. Next year will be a different story. You are not going to fix everything straight away. We currently just don’t have the talent. That’s the issue and it’s the senior members of the group that are letting us down the most. Bring through as many juniors as you can this year, which Benji is already doing, and build from the youth. That’s the future. That’s the way out of this hole that has been dug by many years of previous mismanagement of the club. It’s a slap in the face to the supporters to keep him in the role.Benji is not a quitter. He’s not going to quit. He gets at the very least one more year before he gets cut. Let’s see what they can do with the roster and coaching setup over the off season but I cannot see this club cutting its all time most favoured son after 1 season in charge.
this is not a comment on Benji’s ability to coach. It’s bonkers that we have a coach with no experience and we are the reigning double spooners! It’s just the path dependency of where we are and the risks in appointing the club legend with no experience.
my concern with this is I can’t see how players, structures, or attitude is improving under Benji. I’d be happy to give him time if I thought he had the potential to be a great coach. He’s been burned by not having a proper apprenticeship.
I work in education across many schools and can always help when principals have been promoted quickly and haven’t developed the proper skills. Unfortunately this is the case with Benji
Wasting another couple of seasons on another coach is not the answer. This is what the Wests Tigers have been doing for 13 years and it has to stop. Benji is doing what is needed to be done, blooding the youth. We’ll be OK with Benji as coach. Benji is trying different things, that’s what should be happening this year. This year was always going to be a write off and that’s not on Benji. We’ll be OK going forward. What we need now more than anything is stability and sticking to the plan and that’s what Wests Tigers are doing.@snake 100%. Giving him time is just wasting another season.
Nice respectful and thought provoking discussion guys 👍 it’s a conundrum that we again find ourselves in.
I think, to be fair, Benji has done a good job of keeping results mostly respectable this year. I would suggest last night was our first complete flogging of 24, that’s not a bad effort for a rookie coaching a side coming off two spoons.
Now, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the right guy for the job (at least at this point), but in my opinion it gets him the rest of the year to get a gauge on where he and the side are at. If we slide from here the drums will beat louder.
What he needs is more output and support from some high paid players on the books, however I think these players are lost causes and no longer able to match it with NRL players/teams.
Tough calls need to be made.

absolutely, and I don’t blame Benji at all for this, completely not his fault. The people to blame are those that put him in this position.I have to absolutely disagree with this. We’ve made some shocking decisions. Realistically since sheens the only good coach we’ve had is Cleary, and he left us. If you had to choose a coach now, all being equal, would you select Benji or Arthur? Do you think Benji will be able to develop players, create defensive and attacking structures and devise game plans better than Arthur?

Arthur over Benji....but dont want Arthur either
Arthur without prime Moses and gutho sucked
Before the season started I was saying we would have more losses than wins and the roster is the youngest and most inexperienced in the comp so I was expecting some blow outs as the kids got a few games under their belts. What I was not expecting were the injuries we have had that have led to many changes week in week out and players constantly switching positions and playing out of position, throw in the sin bins and suspensions as well as the consistently crap performances of some of our senior players and we are lucky to have won a single game let alone 4. I don't blame Benji for this because it's been an issue for a number of years under a number of coaches, two of which are premiership winners....plain and simple it's the crap roster management over the last 5 years that has us where we are. The upside is there are some green shoots in terms of younger players coming through and getting blooded as well as an origin half and rookie of the year on deck in 25, also 3 of our 4 wins, excluding the Titans were solid performances with a couple of blowouts (Canberra and Sharks part 1) so whilst I get extremely pissed off after watching a game like the sharks part 2 or the dragons, I do calm down and remain optimistic that we are heading in the right direction.I have to absolutely disagree with this. I would pick Benji over Arthur every day of the week. Arthur is a terrible coach. Benji is a great person manager and that is exactly what we need right now. Better assistant coaches will help. I’d keep Morris but replace Farah. We’ve made some shocking decisions. Realistically since sheens the only good coach we’ve had is Cleary, and he left us. The bottom line though is the squad is not up to the task. We need at least another Prop, Centre and the Lock needs addressing. Given who is coming next year and those additions we would be at least a top 8 club if not better. Now where do you get those players from is the million dollar question. Is it through the juniors or do we need to recruit. I think the juniors are one or two seasons away from being ready so we need to recruit and contract those for a max of two years. Who fits that bill?
@mike genuine question, if he’s such a good people manager, why did Galvin and Stef want to leave?
Galvin is staying. The young bloke had a million people in his ear telling him to leave.@mike genuine question, if he’s such a good people manager, why did Galvin and Stef want to leave?
Stef thinks he is better than what he actually is. A bit delusional if you ask me. You should be asking who allowed the stupid clauses in his contact in the first place and it wasn’t Benji.
Galvin is staying until the end of his contract because Richo told him he'd have to. He asked for a release on multiple occasions and it wasn't because people were in his ear, it's because he wanted to leave. He won't be staying past his contract unless we start winning games and we won't win games if we have a coach who can't coach. So if you really want to keep Galvin, you need to bring in someone who can improve us significantly.Galvin is staying. Stef currently has zero offers on the table from other clubs yet he still hasn't accepted our offer, which is about 2x what he's worth. He will ultimately leave and it will probably be for less money.
Galvin is a typical smart arse 18 year old. I’ve met him briefly and he’s exactly the sort of half we need. People were/are trying to tell him what he should do with his life… At this stage he has no idea, and relies on advice from others. It’s not Galvin wanting to leave it’s his manager and parents, thinking he can do better elsewhere and continually telling him so.Galvin is staying until the end of his contract because Richo told him he'd have to. I stopped worrying about Stef last year. He’s not up to it, he plateaued. Won’t be upset if he goes.
Galvin is 100% going but he should be good value whilst he’s here. Stef is shopping himself around thinking he is the next Petro Civanociva and good luck to him but he can’t stay now, he is talking to every club that has showed a little interest and looks to be happy to eat up what they are saying. We just need to go to market and try and get a big scalp (AFB? Lol) and just move on from Stef. If he stays great, if he leaves great but he is no longer one of us.
Yes 💯 we’ve had experienced coaches, inexperienced. IT DOESN’T MATTER ‼️ As Crazy Ralph says in Friday the 13th … Ya Doomed if you go there 😂🤣Avo do you mean experienced like the 2 befor Benji ?An experienced coach is the only way to turn us around. Any rookie coach would crash and fail like Benji hasZero interest in Arthur or any of those recycled coaches - yesterday's men. Would rather Hannay or Dean Young if we had to look elsewhere (which we won't).
I think Benji (and co) is definitely an issue, but it's far from the biggest issue at the club. The squad is garbage, and the depth underneath is even worse. The development and recruitment has been laughable for a long time, and it's going to take a long time for any changes in that space to be felt at the top level.
