With the pamfers flavour at the Bulldogs with Naden, Burton, Kikau, and with Voldemort just signing for another 5 years at the Pamfers, and with Gould saying today that it will be an experienced Coach appointed, I'd be amazed of the new Dogs coach isnt already signed and its Ciraldo.

Fait accompli. Gus is no fool - he will have had a plan.

I think we need a fresh set of eyes and someone without the baggage of the Maguire tenure.

I feel (or fear) Maguire is a bit of a one trick pony and doesn’t have us capable of consistently playing the modern game.

It’s not a shot at him as a person, I appreciate his hard work here, but sometimes things just don’t work for people in certain environments.

He’s paid to get results, we all understand why they didn’t come straight away, but at some point you just have to start delivering consistently and we’re seemingly no closer to that spot.

Give it a rest. Maguire isn’t going anywhere. He’s our coach and will be for a few years yet. How about we all get behind him instead. That would be a refreshing change from the fan base.

I think having the respect of the playing group is important and just a bit different from the players having fun lol. Hat sales an interesting comment. I’m sure there’d be many critical posts if we weren’t financially in a good spot.
we are absolutely transitioning. We have got rid of the players that didn’t appreciate Madge’s hard nosed approach. The ones adverse to hard work. The ones that cause division within the club. We now have a growing group that work hard and are united. A good start. Sure we are 2/10. We have also been decimated by injuries. Yep - squad should be stronger but what more do we expect than what is happening - pathways development, overhaul of football department, purchasing of high standard experienced first graders. Our squad is absolutely growing (and needs to grow more).
Re Madge’s coaching - I totally lost faith last year but have changed my thinking based on what I’ve seen:

1. A team that never gives up

2. A much better defensive structure

3. An improving attacking plan

all this despite a ridiculous injury toll.

I just haven't seen anything that suggests to me we've turned a corner - I think it's more wishful thinking at this stage. We have shown some effort but I think that is the bare minimum you should expect from a professional sports team. Sure we've been decimated by injuries but that's part of the game, and the players we have on the sidelines aren't superstars.

Quite simply, 2 from 10 in his 4th season isn't acceptable. This is his team and he should live or die based on the results. No more excuses and if we get done on Friday that should be his last game.

That’s correct Avo. I can 100% see where Steve is coming from but at some point we have to find wins, for whatever reasons Maguire just hasn’t been able to translate his efforts to wins here and the club can’t afford to just keep fumbling along at the bottom.

Every year he has been here we have lost ground and this year looks same.

@helmesy @avo Im definitely not into posting relentlessly to try to hammer my point. Appreciate your different opinion. I’ll just ask one thing: what evidence from our history suggests changing coach will make the difference? I think we have the right coaching staff, we just need the right roster - which despite the losses this year, is slowly coming together imo

Mike I love your loyalty to Madge, but what’s your line in the sand? If 2022 ends up with us running last, are you still feeling he’s the right man for us?

Yes he is. The coach is not the issue. The club have people in place to address any football shortcomings. Sheens, Cayless, Kimmorley, Gallant, Sironen et al in the football department. There is enough football brains there.

What hasn’t changed is the front office. That’s where any changes need to be made. Particularly at the CEO level and middle management. This is where the club lacks leadership and direction.

Success starts at the front office and in the front office we are very poor.

When he was signed if someone told you we would decline each year and would be 2-8 to start the 2022 season, would you have been happy with that?

If we get the spoon in his 4th season how could you possibly argue he’s the right man for the job? It’s not logical.

I think the problem with comparing it to previous times we’ve departed from the coach is that we always make poor choices - it shouldn’t stop us from sacking someone who is clearly failing. The one exception to that is Cleary who I think would have ended up being successful here (we would have been playing finals by now imo).

It’s just my opinion but I don’t think Madge is a good coach. He had a stacked team at South’s and he’ll never get that here. The only thing he has achieved is that the team is putting in this year (but that is just fixing a problem he created). The changes we’ve seen in attack is all Hastings.

we have the makings of a potentially good squad next year, the worst thing we can do is leave it in Madge’s hands.

Yep, if it meant fixing the rotten culture that prevailed throughout the team and club at the time. This club was basically a retirement village. That has pretty much been achieved now with the effort upon effort everyone is now putting in.

Some great signings occurring this year, with possible more to come. All who want to be coached by Maguire. I look forward to the next few years.

Then I will admit I’m wrong.
