@helmesy If another team is coaxing him to join, we wouldn't be chipping anything in. We'd only chip in if we are shopping him around.

Of course we would be, the Knights for example would have come with a price they wanted to pay and tried to negotiate a deal with the Tigers to pay some of his freight as it was all over the media that there were differences between Brooks and Madge.

Garry that would be the worst negotiating in the history of the world. Even the Tigers aren't that bad.

Can you provide an example of when a team got a player to agitate for a release and the other team chipped in?

Knights had no intention of paying full freight.

We don't know what their intentions were but it's irrelevant. If a team wants Brooks but we are not shopping him around and want to retain him, we're not chipping in. I can't ever recall an example in the NRL where a team agitated for a release and the other club chipped in (even though they wanted to retain said player). Has it ever happened? Like even we're not that dumb.

The wanting to retain him his the thing though, there are plenty of people that are ready for him to go. Just like we have no idea of the intentions of the Knights we have little knowledge of the intentions of the Tigers, especially before Sheens got back. After Sheens got back it was pretty clear he was staying regardless of how much the Knights wanted to chip in.

In negotiations if you have something someone else wants that puts you in a position of power, not the other way around.

Yes, but that doesn't always mean they are willing to pay full price.

And in that case Sheensy gives Adam O'Brien a kick up the butt and tells him to get out lol

Might be what happened.

Brooks to Newcastle has been a constant in recent months.

Now there’s talk Madden could be moving on.

Out of the two, who would you keep?

The way the question is framed Helmesy,I believe it’s a bit of a gun to the head, because as it stands now we can afford to lose neither.

I like Jock, but Brooksy  will tackle all day,is technically sound at dropping the bigger bodies,so he gets my vote.

I voted for Brooks but geez it was a tough decision. Even though I think he is very talented (except his kicking game) he continues to underperform.

I'm on the fence with Brooksy - but it's interesting when we raise his defence as one of his best qualities - which I agree with

But your no 1 half isn't in the side for their defence.

They are there to lead the team around, set up tries, and find ways to get back on front foot when we are in trouble.

That's what Brooks should be judged on.

Plenty great halves have been bad defenders.

I didn’t think Brooks defence was very good in 2021. 5th in the nrl for missed tackles.

Well I’ve voted our rd 1 captain 😟

aside from injuries I would go with Madden though, hopefully brooks can do a good job until Do-wah-he is back.

Keep steering the right path

Call this misguided pre season optimism, but I think this will be a good year for brooks. A steady halves combo with Hastings, plus it looks like we (and other teams) are heading to a more expansive and potentially ad lib offense similar to how he played growing up with Moses and teddy, I can see Laurie and the 2nd rowers cashing in on some meat pies this year.

While I’m making outlandish claims, I read the list of lifetime members last night and saw Daniel fitzhenry as one of the inductees from a few years ago. No disrespect to fitzhenry but if he is a lifetime member you could make a claim for brooks to become an immortal.

Like asking me to pick from @geo dress sense or music choices ...neither real appealing ...must admit I like the way Madden was taking the line on ....Madden by a short half head

NRL names Madden among their ‘Rookies to Watch’ in 2022.

Wests Tigers fans got a glimpse of highly-rated young halfback Madden towards the end of 2021, with the Scone Thoroughbreds junior earning a debut off the bench and two starts at five-eighth. He will start the year behind senior half Luke Brooks and recruit Jackson Hastings but is likely to add to his three NRL caps as the year goes on. A former Australian Schoolboy and New South Wales junior representative and 2021 Magpies player of the year, Madden is a controlling halfback with a strong kicking game.

I voted to keep Madden based purely on he’s got more ‘upside’.

A lot of people saying Brooks is a better defender but I remember a few years back it wasn’t the case - he was a turnstyle.

If we are as patient with Madden as we have been with Brooks then I think then we might get a decent half back.

That one half in a trial showed me that Madden has improved. I’m not saying he will star this year but I can see vast improvement in him.

Agree with that, I guess the ball is in Madden’s court and we can hopefully see him prove his case.

We won’t though unless Madden is given the opportunity and that’s a problem. Whoever it was that stopped Brooks going to Newcastle that is a black mark against them. I’m looking at you Sheens.

Madden had a decent half in a trial. If he gets a run lets see how he goes
