Brooks to Newcastle has been a constant in recent months.

Now there’s talk Madden could be moving on.

Out of the two, who would you keep?

Madden  is in a low contract so a club would pick 100% of that up unlike Brooks where he moves on and we still have to pay 250k or 300k for him to play elsewhere.

I would only move Madden on if we have a player in mind for top 30 this year

3rd option?

I'm struggling to keep either!

I'd keep Madden. He's no world beater but he's not taking up a lot of the salary cap either.

That’s true, I guess a lot depends on whether Brooks taking up an offer elsewhere leaves us paying a lot of his salary?

I think we will have a better idea after the first 5 or 6 Rounds.

Brooks and Hastings will start and Madden will only get game time if there is an injury.

If Brooks is still playing the same that he has been for the last couple of years, then I think the decision is made.

Hastings/ Doueihi/ Peachey/ Madden can all play in the halves.

Brookes is on big dollars that I think can be spent in other positions to strengthen the Team.....

@helmesy If another team is coaxing him to join, we wouldn't be chipping anything in. We'd only chip in if we are shopping him around.

Neither I don’t think either one is the answer. Id be more then happy to go with Douehi and Hastings in the halves.

Of course we would be, the Knights for example would have come with a price they wanted to pay and tried to negotiate a deal with the Tigers to pay some of his freight as it was all over the media that there were differences between Brooks and Madge.

Garry that would be the worst negotiating in the history of the world. Even the Tigers aren't that bad.

Can you provide an example of when a team got a player to agitate for a release and the other team chipped in?

Knights had no intention of paying full freight.

We don't know what their intentions were but it's irrelevant. If a team wants Brooks but we are not shopping him around and want to retain him, we're not chipping in. I can't ever recall an example in the NRL where a team agitated for a release and the other club chipped in (even though they wanted to retain said player). Has it ever happened? Like even we're not that dumb.

The wanting to retain him his the thing though, there are plenty of people that are ready for him to go. Just like we have no idea of the intentions of the Knights we have little knowledge of the intentions of the Tigers, especially before Sheens got back. After Sheens got back it was pretty clear he was staying regardless of how much the Knights wanted to chip in.

In negotiations if you have something someone else wants that puts you in a position of power, not the other way around.
