Pressure must be mounting on payten. He would be a great addition to the coaching staff
From my reading Richo is stating the obvious, not much new stuff. The rosters for KOE and NRL need improvement. The top 30 is imbalanced, with too many kids who in reality were never going to a get a run in firsts, fringe first graders and unknowns. We are in need of depth players that can play a role when injuries and suspensions happen. We are basically limited, at best, to a top 25. We can’t expect success with that sort of roster management. The current management will turn this around but it will take two seasons to turn over the roster.
@helmesy Adding Todd? Why not the entire 2005 starting line up? Aw thats right, most of them are already here in some capacity.......
@tigertownsfs If there's pressure mounting on Payten, then why would that be? Why can't he seem to get the best out of the Cowboys? Maybe it's not "them", maybe it's "him"? I don't think WT need any more of the "old guard" to fix this situation. Lord knows we've had enough of that with Marshall, Sheens, McDonnell, Farah etc.

@jedi-tiger Sure, but both Morris and Payten have more credits as head coaches than Marshall does. And, yes, I know he is early in his tenure. But, there are big question marks on his capacity, IMO, despite what the recently-returned-from-unemployed Shane Richardson says.
Payten should have been given an opportunity when he was assistant coach here but I think we went for some else. I don’t remember but I think we went with Madge at that time.
For the big picture, I really liked reading Richo’s comments on improving the reserve grade team.

Definitely had that long term vision feel. It’s a start over job and I don’t think he will flinch. Whether the fans can hold on much longer without on field success is the question.
A good leader surrounds him/herself with quality/strong people.
So for Benji to have the more experienced and qualified Morris and Payten as assistants is a good thing. He has no issues with their ability to do their job and he can also learn from them.

Absolutely agree - that team has been a disaster for several years now. A combo of untested kids and Ron Massey Cup players, which doesn't help anyone.
