@avocadoontoast I agree.We either have standards or we Don't.
Le Frog
Called it.
I suspect the talk of the FM role waiting for the review is utter garbage too - they're probably fumbling their way down the list of preferred candidates like they did with the coach, and thought the review would be a convenient excuse as to why the process had taken so long.
They are treating us like mugs.
I think we could do a lot worse than have Wayne Pierce as GM Football. He was our first Coach, could played a bit, he's intelligent and very well connected within the NRL. Failing that Marina Go? Just kidding......... 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

Pearce is still on the ARL Commission and cant be affiliated with a Club. Cushy well paid job. Would be mad to give it up.
I think Eddie Jones might be available pretty soon.
This was a great listen. If you can find the link to the Saturday crunch time podcast on the SEN website start listening from about 1/3rd of it and they cover WT for a good 30 mins. Joel Caine at one point says "The first WT club director that is prepared to step down... Ill shout that individual an expenses paid trip to Hamilton Island."
They also cover the GM position and Benji's prospects as a coach.
@avocadoontoast didn’t he leave a dominant England side to take up the wallabies gig ?
Hard to say he’s sheens like . He’s basically coaching a KOE cup level talent Rugby team .
There’s better football talent running around for Manly Wynnum than the wallabies side . Such is the fire nature of the game here .
Most talented kids would rather bide their time in Q cup .
Plus , in general the dominant teams in rugby outside the all blacks , are the most technical .
We never ever have been the most technical in our development pathways . But we used to have the skills to overcome that , with players like Larkham/ Gregan, but more importantly elite flankers like George Smith and Phil Waugh , who could dominate the breakdown , get quick ball and allow these guys the time and space to do thier thing .
We just don’t have those players anymore. Apparently “leaguies” aren’t needed , according to the blazer brigade .
This is the result of 10-15 years of nepotism and wanker/ elite thought process .

I think I prefer Cheika. Jones looks to have lost it a bit. Very Sheens-esque
I get your point and to be honest I wouldnt have a clue. One thing Ive noticed with Jones is all the way through his recent cursed stint as Wallaby's coach he has been very honest and open about the problems in Rugby with player development, wants to reduce Super Rugby to 3 teams in Aus, stated his number 10 can t be developed because he is playing is a substandard Super Rugby team. Point being he is laser focused on the development pathways. Cheika might be too. both would be worth talking to. They might both be crap because they aren't keyed into league pathways but a different mindset might also open doors.
@lestronge you know what, you might be right. I’m not a big rugby fan so I’m really only judging him on recent form which in this case might be unfair.
@tiger5150 I wouldn't have a clue either. In a way I like getting someone who has had success in union because it provides a completely different perspective. I think Cheika or Jones would probably be good appointments (if either of them would consider us).
I totally agree about Jones. He's a mercenary looking to top up his superannuation at the expense of any deep connection to those who employ him. In fact, probably inspired by spite in terms of Rennie (a Kiwi) having the Wallabies gig and knowing he could play an incompetent and desperate Board off a break to punt Rennie and employ him.I think Eddie Jones might be available pretty soon.

Very much like Tim Sheens conspired to do at WT. With similarly disastrous results.
I hope they both go to Japan ...... or Greenland, Antarctica ..... or where ever, as far away from here as possible.
Whilst we are throwing about left field contenders for management, let me through a wild suggestion for either GM football or CEO. Yes it’s a wild suggestion but it’s a bloke who has proven himself as someone who gets things done and has built clubs up from scratch AND a former magpie……..
John Ribot
Update: Steve, Garry and I had an exhaustive discussion with Gary Barnier (the person leading the review). I can’t speak for the other guys, but I was very impressed with Gary and the way he approached the discussion. We intend to record a pod this weekend which I’m sure will include some further details.
