Yeah, well done Darcy! We’ve crossed the rubicon and there’s no going back now. HBG is done.

Billionaire Arthur Laundy has unveiled a surprise plan to buy the Wests Tigers amidst the fallout from the sacking of four independent board members.

A Sydney pub baron, Laundy is a major sponsor of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and lifelong Balmain Tigers fan.

The billionaire has revealed he will explore the possibility of buying out the Holman-Barnes Group, who currently own 90% of the Wests Tigers, and have come under fire for firing four independent board members after nine months in the job.

“It would be the only way they are ever going to survive,” Laundy told The Daily Telegraph.

“I can’t see how this (joint venture) can ever work so I’d be happy to look at buying Wests’ 90 per cent.

“Yes, I’m certainly prepared to look at it.

“I have a soft spot for Balmain, and I will always be a Balmain person."

The Daily Telegraph reports the Wests Tigers would be valued at $45-50 million dollars, with Laundy potentially tipping in $20m, and the remaining $30 million to be from a collection of other businessmen.

We don’t need a Balmain person/group or a Wests Magpies person/group owning the club. We need a Wests Tigers person/group owning the club.

I think the soft questioning and inane responses have just irritated me more.

Same. A guy goes from being a CFO to being the CEO and thinks he can instantly be the main man of the club we’ve followed and supported for decades.

Following that interview with Paton from HBG, I think that the real dynamics are not between HBG and Richardson, but more so between Marshall and Richardson.

Marshall has their unequivocal support. Richardson not so. O'Farrell (who was mediocre, at best, as Chairperson, IMO) was aligned with Richardson and he has been booted. That strong relationship has been broken.

I really wonder how Marshall would feel if Richardson was sacked or resigned? Maybe it's not a case of Independent Board and Richardson v HBG.. Maybe it's Marshall (ok with HBG decisions)v Richardson?

And, given the seemingly strong bond between Marshall and players, Richardson's exit wouldn't be the big deal that many on here think it will be?

Fascinating indeed.

But, it's just my interpretation of those Paton responses.

@mercy-rule irrespective of any possible benji and HBG relationship, I think we needed someone that knew what they were doing and that was Richo.
We now have no Richo , no independent board and possibly no Bula or Jerome

a bit of a possible heavy price

As a long term investment $50 mill is peanuts a give me if you like . I doubt Laundy will be the only one offering up. Makes good headlines but shows how serious the HBG have gotten them selves into . This is going to get very ugly , they have poked the wrong area of the club for the final time they are going to learn some home truths over the coming weeks !.And the NRL will step in they will not want this moving into the new season as we WILL not let this go ! Do you understand BURGESS.

HBG through its many spokespersons have been heavily hitting the "Unity" storyline, which is commendable.

Vladimir Putin is all about unity too. So much so that he is willing to make people disappear for the sake of it, to ensure it is achieved.

Sound familiar???

That SMH interview was all about smoke and mirrors. Nothing to see hear they say. Nothing to interest the NRL in regards to this club and the way we are managing it.

If they can sell this BS story we are cooked!
