@mike It’s been interesting watching jobs for the boys being appointed through the coaching ranks in the lower grades . Have been thinking something stinks ! …This is a major development this club is just a mediocre organisation always has been and always will be. Do not get to excited about the future as this organisation has no idea how to produce a winning culture from administration to the footy department, is anyone surprised by this new job for the boys in all aspects of the club .

Why exactly is this a major development? Firstly Betseys replacement (if any) hasnt been appointed yet. Secondly, what in particular about Matt Betsey was going to lift us out of mediocrity? In particular, how was retaining a bloke with no previous Rugby League experience going to be the genius move that lifts the club up?
Seems to be an unpopular opinion here, but I would like to see our General Manager of Football, actually have a background in our football, not soccer. Successful clubs have the best in this position. It is become pretty obvious to me that we are trying to get through on the smell of an oily rag for everything below Richo, including coaching assistants. Money is obviously an issue.
Personally Id rather Richo oversee the role, with Shannon and existing doing the work and spend that >$200K on coaching staff.
Shaun is one of the best sports execs in the country, but tend to agree that I would have liked to see someone with specific NRL experience in such a role. The GM of football has a specific talent management aspect that can have a massive impact on a club's fortunes.
I know he has had roles within NRL clubs before, but they've been predominantly commercially focussed rather than roster and pathways management.
Well the last guy was a cricket Australia hire so I’m not sure if it’s that much of a step backwards. I’m guessing Richo is doing a role which approximates the GM of football (recruitment etc) so what we need is someone to do the management of the club which is more a professional position

With respect to Richo but he's no spring chicken and has had a couple of health issues recently.
Smart by Richo organising a succession plan post his role.
@joel This is fact but the reality is the owners want no part of it or should I say as small a part as possible . Unfortunately for the Weststigers to ascend to that status the owners need to financially back the club with the capital to contend with the larger clubs in Sydney . It’s not hard to see with what’s transpired over the years that HBG only want ownership of the club for the prestige it holds for themselves to be lavished over at bare minimum expense and of course the other agenda that plays out at Lidcombe oval. The only way the Weststigers are going to become what we all know it can be is to be sold to owners that will demand success and provide to required funds to achieve this . Unfortunately while the caviar and champagne flow and the hero worship at Lidcombe oval every other weekend continues for minimal expense that’s a mountain to hard to climb!
