Galvin on Luai from the SMH online article: "He's going to help us so much and change the culture around here".
Change the culture. Really? I wonder what he meant by that?
And, who among coaching and playing staff might find it a bit of a confronting comment from a rookie team mate?
There has been plenty of talk that part of the Luai signing was to do with his ability to drive standards and culture.
We’ve needed a good effective link man between coach and players for many years.

So, Galvin has broken his personal best bronco time of 4.15 and run a 4.12. For reference, 4.11 is the world record for football players. There are only a handful of players in the world who can run even close to this time. His fitness levels are truly elite.
I can handle standards because it (should) involves specific aspects that have been identified and can be measured; e.g. we will have a better standard of defence and will be measured by improvements in total and average points conceded; we will improve average post-contact metres of our pack, the level of set completions will increase etc etc.Galvin on Luai from the SMH online article: "He's going to help us so much and change the culture around here".

"Culture" is more of an attitude thing, IMO. I don't know how Luai will improve the attitude of Adam Doueihi, for instance, but it would be fantastic if he could.
@mercy-rule At last the word Culture is on everybody’s lips at the club … for change to happen the honesty about the issue is foremost. I am impressed that the players and staff are talking this way the more talk the better ,it’s refreshing that the younger guys see the issue and are expressing themselves . Richo sees it he is building the us against them mentality with all his catch phrases, this club certainly needs a culture change and at least there talking about !
I see the whole driving standards & changing culture as having the right leadership group within the team. The coaching staff can only do so much but they need the leaders in the playing group to lead at training & in games. Api tried his hardest but it’s obvious he needs help & a half, the chief organiser & playmaker, should have a big part to play as well. But it’s a combined effort & won’t work as well as it should without the right leadership group. And I think it’s even more important for a rookie coach to have some great leaders amongst the playing group.
The right leadership group would mean getting a combination of experience, skills, communication etc that when put together increases the buy in of all staff. It would also lead to improving your ability to handle setbacks or difficult situations & improve each individual’s ability to carry out their role.I see the whole driving standards & changing culture as having the right leadership group within the team. Yep, and all those mentioning "culture" will have a different understanding of what it means, so it's hard to measure. In season 2024 Marshall, in his serious face head coach mode, repeatedly mentioned "non-negotiables" in terms of player effort and performance (I assume that's what he meant). And, what happened? WT finished last. Again!@mercy-rule At last the word Culture is on everybody’s lips at the club … for change to happen the honesty about the issue is foremost. Improved "standards" is pretty clear and worth aiming for, IMO. A better "culture"? What the hell is that?
I think in this case it’s just a label given which encompasses the organisation as a whole. They simply want to be a better, more successful, organisationYep, and all those mentioning "culture" will have a different understanding of what it means, so it's hard to measure. and the label of “culture” probably encompasses every aspect of it.
@russtutty63 Sure, but it was Galvin's use of the word "culture" that I was interested in. I don't think he's smart enough to think WT "culture" is exactly how you described it, as good as your definition is.
But, should Marshall and coaching staff get the best out of the talent they have at their disposal and WT has a much more successful season (i.e. mid-table or higher) the media and others can bang in all they like about the new "culture" at WT. But really it will just be what Galvin was thinking about, IMO; Luai should help WT win more games.

Hmm ... nice use of cutting and pasting part of my comment. I didn't realise click bait was your thing.IMO; Luai should help WT win more games.
How will he do that?
If you read the whole thing, that was my take on what I thought Galvin possibly meant with his comment about Luai changing the culture.
The Wests Tigers players over the last 3 years are an interesting study in human behaviour. You can see that they all have a good game in them, when there is "individual" motivation to perform, see AD coming back from his latest injury, see papallii coming back from injury after signing with Panthers see Sam Fainu looking to lock down his spot....and the list goes on and on they play well for a few games then fade as they find themselves as the only ones that have chased a player the length of the field when everyone else is standing 80m away with their hands on their hips. I can see quality players in our roster however the culture has been more about the individual rather than the team. We need these guys to build a cohesive and winning mentality. I think there may be some turbulence this year when a big personality like Luai comes in and starts holding guys that have been around for years, or that think they are better than they really are because they have been above average in a wooden spoon 3 peat team accountable. It could all end in tears for 25 however we need to persist and weed the problematic players out for a real tilt in 26.

I wasn't trying to minimise your comment, I was just highlighting that part as in my opinion a large part of him helping us to win games will be his ability to drive standards and help rid us if a close enough is good enough culture

100% agree. Been saying this for literally years. The squad isn't that bad. Could be better but still better than 17th. Our problem has been getting the best out of what we've got. Hopefully the tide is turning 🤞🤞🤞
