The newsletter arrived today and to me confirms that Tamou will remain Captain in 2022.
Welcome to 2022!
We hope that you and your families had a safe holiday period.
We are excited to be back on deck and eager for the 2022 season to start! The players returned to training last week, and despite hot conditions across Sydney, the boys are training harder than ever and are excited for the upcoming campaign.
Wests Tigers Captain James Tamou said he’s been impressed with the team’s efforts.
“I’ve liked what I’ve seen from the team so far in 2022 as we prepare for a big season ahead,” Tamou said.
“There’s still a lot of work to be done before the start of the season, but things are looking good.”
The team will also be strengthened by the signing of outside back Starford Toa for the next two seasons.
To’a, who has played 20 NRL matches, is capable of playing at fullback, on the wing and in the centres — adding great depth to the Wests Tigers backline.
“Starford is a talented player with NRL experience and I’m really pleased to welcome him to our team,” coach Michael Maguire said.
“Starford will be a great addition to the talented young squad that we’re building, and I look forward to him joining the team ahead of the 2022 NRL season.”

No surprise about Tamou but it’s a shame to have a captain that did what he did.

I was very disappointed in him on the field last year.

Bit silly to have a captain who probably shouldn’t be in the 17.

Twal is probably the only bloke who picks himself every week , not sure if he is captaincy material

We are so short in that department that it isn't funny.

Not a leader among them tbh. On another forum people want AD as the captain because he is upset/cares after losing a game. Great you are emotional after losing a game...thats a very low and wrong bar..

I don't think he is ready for that role yet and needs to focus on aspect of his game if he wants to cement a spot in the halves.

We still don't even seem to know his best role in the side ...how do you make him captain with that hanging over his head

Spot on. This year needs to see Adam get fit, get back in the team, and then cement himself into a position.
If Brooks and Hastings are firing in the halves this will make it all the more interesting for Doueihi and his progression.

Captain is really over rated.. Mr Tamou talks well to the media so he can have the tag..
As for on the field you don't need a (C) to be a leader
Shawn Blore will emerge as a leader in this Team..
@geo-2 Tamou Captaincy style is very similar to Mbye’s, speak well off field but struggle to lead by example on it.

Seems to be the case - my problem with both is I never really considered either of them to be “our players” ie they are outsiders to Wests Tigers.
Robbie Farah was one of ours, Mark O’Neill and Aaron Woods too, but guys like Prince, Mbye and Tamou aren’t/weren’t “Wests Tigers” and thus captaincy always felt a bit clunky/odd.

I hope so. He looks likely but he was running poor lines and pushing passes last year. He comes across to me as an athlete but not a footy player. If he adds some skill to his game he will be good. He makes his tackles which is unusual for a Tigers player.
