LO is 9km from the SFS and 22km from Commbank stadium. I honestly don’t get the argument that “we may as well play at parra if you want to play at SFS”. When Balmain played at Parramatta stadium we averaged 6k per game, at SFS we averaged 18k. Even assuming they are equal stadiums now don’t the numbers infer that the SFS is more accessible/preferable to Tigers fans?
Because in an oversaturated market a team called Wests playing in the Eastern Suburbs is setting itself up for rationalisation.
In memory of Geoff Chisholm (1965-2022)

some gsmes at sfs
some games at LO
some games at CS
Let’s put aside that Collingword, Richmond, Melbourne and Hawthorn play at the MCG or that Port Adelaide and the Crows play at the Adelaide oval. The truth is that the only real protection against rationalisation is profitability. When the NRL last rationalised the competition the criteria were things like attendance, financial viability, sponsorship revenues, and on- field performance. Playing games at the same stadium is not going to be a disadvantage to these criteria. In all honesty I can’t imagine a scenario where rationalisation is ever going to be an issue again. Now that all clubs have strong financial backing it seems much more likely that we get mild expansion towards 20 teams. Much more dangerous would be if we moved to Campbelltown and weakened our financial position

Nicely thought through and a good argument for the new SFS.

Rubbish. Rationalisation will come if we have poor facilities resulting in poor crowds. SFS as a home ground would ensure that doesn’t happen.

Surely SFS would also be the most corporate friendly too? Best facilities and close to the CBD/money end of Sydney.

Yes indeedie
Seems to me that there are convincing arguments from both sides and It might not be a straightforward decision. Whoda think it?
Leichhardt in line for funding bonanza
There’s talk Leichhardt Oval will benefit from up to $50 million funding grant as part of the investment in suburban grounds. The announcement will be made next month when the state government unveils its plans for the budget on June 21.

$50M won’t be enough. $75-$100M at least is needed for an upgrade.

complicated decision yes. Probably why not much is happening in this space and we continue to talk about it. The three homeground strategy seems to keep most factions happy.
@garry Your sell out crowd is where the majority of the supporter base is locked out ! This is the major issue that the club will have selecting a ground !! Lock out your supporter base and there is no growth and in the end the business dies on the vine !
@eastiemagpie After 20 seasons keeping a minority of fractions happy is an appalling why to run a business!
The organisation needs a leader that will finally realise the potential this club has and that is giving the footy club a home and leave the few fractions reminiscing how i great it was 20 seasons ago !Its 2022..
@mike The new SFS could not give the supporters of this club these fine comfortable areas for families and the disabled !
If a picture tells a story where this clubs philosophies lay this is it yep it’s 2022 people!

The diehards, like me, will go no matter the venue (except Liverpool.. lol). It’s the fans that aren’t going now that we need to attract. That’s were the focus on which home ground to choose should be.
Capacity for existing diehards and new attendees. Growth is what we should be looking at. Growth is what will ensure the club will never die.
