I would like to know if there’s data/stats around that show a correlation to membership numbers and stadium capacity?

I’m of the belief that when the AFL clubs shifted from suburban grounds to the MCG/Docklands their member numbers increased.

Interesting point you make.I imagine the the AFL marketers and strategists would have been all over this and would have the data. They had their bloody moments of rationalisation and restructuring in the quest for a national competition.

Curious to know also what NRL long term strategy might be,or if they have one.

one home ground as long as it is Leichardt or one home ground as log as it is campbletown

we are two areas, if we do go traditional then it has to be 50-50 split, if all you do is throw LO a token 3 games and campbletown 9 that will leave plenty of fans annoyed.

interesting if the club publish memberships and where they are from and also membership numbers at LO and CSS

Agree Parramatta is not a home ground right next to Parramatta leagues club

I love the idea of a 50:50 split CSS & LO. I genuinely think it would be the best thing for the club from a fan and playing POV, but I think it would be a mistake financially. We would lose money not playing at the big stadia.

I’m not too stressed about the COE at concord vs home ground at CCS. Broncos and Storm have COEs in a narrow part of their geographic area and represent larger areas, dragons train in the Illawarra and play mostly in Sydney, Manlys feeder club is in Blacktown. The professional sports team draws players from many parts of the country and basing the high performance unit closer to the city where you 1st grade players can conveniently access seems like a really smart choice. Yes it would be great to support a team like Penrith or parramatta that didn’t have to address this issue but this is the hand that we’ve been dealt. I don’t see why if the club is investing in high performance junior academy in Campbelltown, consolidates and brands that area as an important part of our club and offers talented players a clear and realistic pathway to a well run seniors programme why this address most of the issues of identity and gain support from the community. We just need to make the call and move on.

Further to that, have Souths memberships increased because of their playing at Homebush in recent years? How about Bulldogs v their years at Belmore/Showgrounds? I think you’re more likely to sell more ticketed memberships at the big ground with plenty of capacity, under cover seating, better than adequate toilet and general amenities and top parking/transport links. Not to mention Homebush is geographically smack bang in the middle of Sydney and therefore potentially having a larger catchment (ie Hornsby people might come to Homebush but not Campbelltown.

Then of course there are the significantly better corporate facilities too.

Also, if Homebush is giving us a guaranteed gate (ie pay us to play there) then surely that has to be taken into account, as opposed to breaking even or losing money at LO or CS.

That is really hard to establish as you are not comparing like for like data as the membership push in Rugby League started after Souths and the Bulldogs moved to Stadium Australia.

I honestly don't think any club should play club games at Stadium Australia as it is not fit for that purpose.

But, conversely, is Leichhardt in 2022? Parking, amenities, under cover seating etc? I love the place but you could easily make the argument that Homebush is significantly more appropriate for a top flight NRL club.

Yeah, I have already stated that. I think that is why we are seeing this push for Campbelltown that I believe should include a push for a new stadium.

hopefully the council can show Wests Tigers the same support they have given the Bulls and offer the stadium for free.

If we are going down this route we have to put this sort of squabble behind us and work with both the Bulls and the council to get ourselves a new stadium. Lets be proactive in this area for a change and start pushing for what we want.

And sadly that overrides every other aspect of it. I forgot to mention location before. That is also a plus. It’s perfect in every sense except it is absolutely a crap place to watch footy. Way way way too far away and unless there’s 50000 it’s like watching footy in solitary confinement

I agree with all of that but that last line is a little close to home since I am still in isolation lol
