In regards to selection against Canberra there are arguably half a dozen positions up for grabs.I’m scratching my head to really get any idea or objective take on where we’re at.Outside backs seem something of a lottery as does 13,14 and the bench.
When Api was interviewed as he left the field he mentioned the lack of intensity. How could you not agree?I got the feeling that the whole team was intentionally not giving its all, still a trial after all and no points on the line.God I hope so.Having said that I still get the feeling that we are in need of that hard-nut uncompromising brute of a middle to add a little more starch to the mix.Easier said than done I know, but having a vacant spot in our roster that’s definitely what I’d be prioritising.

Found this difficult as we haven't seen a few of the top liners, including guys like Latu Fainu and Naden, who would be pushing for selection whilst not an auto pick.

1 Bula

2 Staines

3 Olam

4 Toa

5 Tupou

6 Sullivan

7 Sezer

8 Stef

9 Koroisau

10 Klemmer

11 Papali’i

12 Bateman

13 Seyfarth

14 Galvin

15 Sam Fainu

16 Pole

17 Twal

That's what I reckon will get named based on the selections in the trials. Galvin played 3 or 4 different positions on Saturday, which makes me think he's being prepped for that bench utility (at least to start with).

Canberra didn't impress for most of last year, but they will always play hard as nails. If we don't up the effort areas 10-fold from the Dragons showing, we'll get lapped.

Based on the last trial I don't think Sullivan can get picked over Galvin*. A bit concerned about Sezer - seems to go side to side when he needs to straighten things up.

* In my opinion.

Really think the tigers worked well with Hastings at 13… I reckon Sezer could do the same at lock. If it wasn’t for Jackson getting injured against the broncos they wouldn’t have got the spoon in 22 imo.

Keep steering the right path

Or possibly shifting to lock after 20 minutes?

I'm not sure how Sezer's body would hold up defending at 13. Hastings looked pretty worse for wear at the end of the season when he played 13 for us, and he's a lot bigger and younger than Sezer.

The missing link for the 13 is a real worry. What the heck happened to Matamua?? If things had gone to plan he should be that missing link right now!

I wonder if it’s an attitude problem?

This is going to be a loooong discussion re Benji's team in round 2 All I can say is he has to pick a team that he is comfortable sticking with for at least half the season. Whilst we do have a bit of junior depth and players that have shown glimpses of potential in the to top grade i.e TDS, Galvin, Mason I would rather bring them in when either the team is travelling well and they fill a role to cover for injury, origin, suspension, or the season is shot and we are building for next year. What I don't want is them to be pressured into being the "savior" and then trashed when they don't live up to the hype after a game or two. As a supporter I am really struggling to curb my expectations however this year will be quite a rocky season and as I have mentioned before we have 4 new halves who have never played together and/or have not played an actual first grade game, we have inexperienced FB and backup FB's a rookie coach and a relatively young forward pack if you take out Api, Klemmer and Twal. The good thing is there is immeasurable upside for this roster with a few key additions.....however they need to be given 12 - 18 months to show that....my humble opinion.

Well said Lorenzo.Hopefully the injury Gods smile on us and we’re not prematurely throwing young players to the wolves. My concern is our ability to cover for our middles. If we incur injuries here I believe we’re in all sorts…

Angus Crichton is available for 2025 I know Japanese rugby are chasing him but if you could get him for the right price he would be a handy pick up

He’s not the same player he was three or four years ago. He’s cooked. Just let him go to rugby.
