after last nights sobering trial performance...

For me..

1. Bula

2. Tupou

3. Olam (if fit)

4. ???????? There has literally been no one stamp their name here in the trials other than maybe Faataape. Naden a chance I guess?

5. Lobb - I just think played better than Staines. Aerial target and is a bigger body for the hard carries. impressed with that one hard run.

6. Galvin - Really dont like throwing a kid in here yet, but Sullivan looked at sea. Erratic in attack and defence is woeful. Galvin or Latu.

7. Sezer

8. Stef

9. Api

10. Klem

11. Papalii - I thought he looked strong again in patches last night.

12. Bateman (assume fit by then)

13. Pole - much better last night

14. Simpkin or Sullivan

15. Samuela Fainu - Continues to impress me

16. Twal

17. Seyfarth

Edit: cant believe I forgot Twal. Who would waste the 4th tackle if he wasnt there?

Sezer was pretty disappointing last night. Not really any pressure on him but we really need to give our 6 and 7 some time to gel. We can’t do the constant chopping and changing. For me it looks like:

7. Sezer

6. galvin

14. Sullivan

My takeaways from last night:

  • Api overplaying his hand is a big cause of our red zone problems
  • Simpkin shouldnt play first grade this year
  • We need Latu to be as good as Fulton said he was
  • Galvin was brave and decent but no where near as good have some have suggested
  • Stef looks back
  • Our wing options are still rubbish
  • Bula is a massive work in progress
  • When we play direct we look better. See Heath Mason

Cheers

Quite worried about Staines to be honest. He is good finishing on the end of a backline but we have zero backline plays that result in an overlap. Zero. So he is just a small player doing hit ups to start the set. We would be better off just putting a tall player on the wing to give an attacking kick option for tackle 6 because at this rate that is the only way we can score points.

Usually the 2nd trial team named is virtually the first round team. But we have issues at wing, centre, lock, halves and bench. Good luck Mr Marshall and co.

Good part of rd 2 is that the team is due for diamonds as apposed to rocks 🤷‍♂️

I mostly agree with you..only switch I would make is Galvin at 14 and Sullivan at 6, Api needs to play 80...maybe it will force him to play with a bit more consistency and pick his moments, he was absolutely frantic against the Dragons. Galvin looks like he can cover a number of positions in the backline and 13 however probably needs to be eased into the starting side. Sezer and Sullivan were in sync for the first 20 mins of the Warriors game so on that performance I would start them in round 2. I like having Sione and Samuela in the side, add stef and they are an absolute handful.

Yeah I tend to agree mate, would start the season with Lobb and Jnr for this reason. Also considering that Charlie is coming back from a long lay-off so would benefit from a time in Cup to get good confidence and maybe a bit more room to motor.
Lobb is looking like he has what it takes but I still have concerns that he'll get a bit beat up with constant NRL... but by then Staines might be good to come back in.

Big call to start a #13 that hasn't played a game yet... didn't they try Bateman as a 13 last year and fail?
