Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe, who was at the game along with club Chairman Lee Hagipantelis, has confirmed that the club is demanding an explanation from the NRL.

“We believe the officials got it wrong, plain and simple,” said Pascoe.

That decision has cost us victory and we want answers.”

CEO, Justin Pascoe

“Our players worked their backsides off all night to celebrate Jimmy’s 300th game, and they are to be applauded for their efforts.”

“I know officials also work hard to get it right, but this in our opinion was just so wrong.”

“I have spoken to a number of very experienced players, former players, media commentators, and our own coaching staff, and everyone agrees it was the wrong call,” added Pascoe.

“I’m not here to bash officials, I know they are doing their best, but the Bunker is there to avoid ‘howlers’.”

“We would like an explanation from the NRL, and our members and fans deserve that.”

I'd like to see how they explain it. Everyone can see we were blatantly robbed by the referee. It's not the first time he's done this

I don't expect any meaningful action from the NRL but both Klein and Butler should be stood down for the remainder of the season.

Good luck with that. The NRL will just double down to save face.

The NRL needs to do something about the bunker. it was put there to stop the howlers, instead it just created the biggest one of all time. The process is seriously flawed.

I think we’re forgetting one official here guys…. The touchie! apparently tipped the ‘escort’ pardon the pun there 😂 which instigated the cows challenging. Such a dogs breakfast really and to be honest we’re not going to win here unfortunately.
On to the broncos now I reckon.

Keep steering the right path

One thing worth noting is the depth of the Cowboys kick off.

It was far too deep to give the chasers a realistic chance to compete but designed to get better field position for any resulting penalty.

Couple with Kyle Feldt's ludicrous dive it was clear premeditated cheating and I've lost a lot of respect for Payten and the Cowboys.

I hope they crash and burn the rest of the year.

I agree, I think it was an intentional ploy.

Im still not convinced that Annesley or the NRL have got that right about the viablility of the challenge and IMO Annesley proved he was wrong at the end when he used the example of if the Ref had blown a penalty the Tigers could have challenged the decision and "it would be exactly the same". IMO this is rubbish and that example shows why. The Tigers would be challenging the decision made by the referee. In the case last night the referee did not make a decision to be challenged. Exactly the same as when they "clamped down" when teams were intentionally infringing in the ruck to get to a chellenge.

This is an absolute clown show from Annesley.

He's justifying the challenge being allowed by saying the ref had blown his whistle but not for the end of the game, doesn't mention what the whistle was for though.

He also says that a challenge is allowed if the stoppage in play results in a structured restart, which he says is the penalty kick for goal but he fails to mention that there was no penalty awarded until after the challenge.

He's taking about the spirit of the game allowing a challenge but the rules on what can and can't be challenged are crystal clear and in this case a challenge should not have been allowed.

They've thrown us a bone by admitting that the bunker call was incorrect but I sincerely hope that the club do not just accept this.

Fair play to Michael Chammas, he absolutely schooled Annesley with facts from the NRL's own rule book. He's not everyone's favourite but he went into bat for us today.

All I heard from Annesley was about being open and accountable but there will be no consequence of any kind for Klein.

Good article from Andrew Webster on the matter. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/tigers-fiasco-shows-it-s-time-to-blow-up-the-bunker-20220725-p5b4a7.html

That’s right CT,it was a nebulous semi admission in that they probably shouldn’t have awarded the penalty, but fails to succinctly address the rules surrounding the challenge which is where the massive clanger is made.A real deflection job.

Clown show alright!
