Jackson Hastings, is it all a show?

I'd have rather kept Hastings and see how things panned out rather than letting him go and seeing how things panned out... for what gain??

The biggest issue was always Brooks' inability to manage and organise. AD also. Allowing Hastings to walk and then having to play Wakeham etc was terrible roster management.

@the-last-ronin Gamble’s done a very good job since Jacko got injured to be fair. They are only strengthened by his inclusion the knights.

He frees up Ponga.

Spilt Milk I know, but if he was here we wouldn't have been spooners this year. He's a hell of a competitor also

well said

Hastings is playing finals footy this year and Wests Tigers have gone worse than last year 16th to 17th resulting in two wooden spoons.

Pretty good show I reckon.

he has some bloody good players around him namely K Ponga carrying that side on his shoulders.

do not think Hastings is contributing all that much they looked just as good with him not there and Clune taking his spot.

Does the same get said next year re brooks if manly make the semis ? a fair bit of it comes down to the players in the team all combining well together

Regardless what you think. Hastings is playing finals and Wests Tigers are not. You cannot escape this fact. Still a pretty damn good show…

again so next year if manly make the semis you will have to change your opinion in Brooks as he is "playing semis" ... doesn't work like that you can be playing not great in a  good team, Hastings is no stand out in that Newcastle team, Ponga is the one

@jedi-tiger like I said , Clune IMO is as good as Hastings . And has shown it at times when given the chance .
No way on earth Hastings would make a difference to the outcome of many of our games .
Our issue isn’t an organising half . I feel like I’m taking crazy pills on that . Our issue a severe dearth of creativity  and shape .  Things a 3 hit up and hit your 6 on the 4th in shape half  , won’t fix

I have bagged clune out all year but he is playing for that Newcastle side better than Hastings abd combines well with gamble and ponga

I will be tipping Canberra to beat Newcastle and send them packing.

Brooks was always destined to be good out of the Wests Tigers system. Good luck to him. He was never the organising half back we needed, Hastings was. So no I won’t change my opinion on Brooks if Manly makes the finals next year.

Nor have I changed my opinion on Hastings, he was the organising half we needed this year. With the improved forward pack and Hastings at 7 I believe there is no way we would have our 2nd Wooden Spoon.

Congratulations to Hastings for making the finals, Wests Tigers be damned for getting the 2nd consecutive Wooden Spoon and going from 16th to 17th.

Would we have been second or third-last?

I agree. I'm only guessing about the thinking behind letting Hastings go, but I assume it was probably a Sheens/McDonnell led decision given that Hastings was a Maguire signing, as was Maumolo who was also punted?

You know, protecting their own cash-cow turf???

@mike what evidence do you have to prove that though ? Because I have evidence to the contrary . Season 22 in which he played more than his fair share of games .
man’s we won 4 games . It sure does look like more of the same to me …

16 games mate !!! And we were not only crap , but beyond boring as well .at least now we just look crap when trying things .
last year we looked crap doing nothing ! I don’t understand how Tim sheens Teflon like , Hastings is with the fan base . Why because he blew smoke up everyone’s arse with a few interviews ?
I don’t have an issue with him , but much in the same way I never thought brooks was as bad as he was made out , I know Hastings is way worse than some here view him .

He was playing behind a forward pack that just wasn’t NRL standard. Behind the forward pack we had this year we would not have come LAST.
