Was out helping my son with something so watched the game on delay. Kind of wish I just looked at the scores. As Mike said this was expected however it doesn’t make it any easier to swallow.
Bateman, Api, Ice are quality signings and instead of making us better we have somehow dragged them into the muck.
Our plays inside the 20 are diabolical. I can’t recall us scoring from a set move all season.
Doueihi is clearly not a fullback, Brooks is trying to run himself into form, Wakeham has shown why he’s spent most of his career as a back up. These guys are meant to key players.
I really can’t think of where we go from here as we have no one worth bringing in and no one wants to come here.
I also can’t work out where our first win comes from. From what I’ve seen from the other teams they are all a long way in front of us.
I'd be willing to help you son out on the next game day.
Agree with all that, though I can't be too critical on Wakeham, he is playing exactly like the player we signed.
Agreed. Wakeham is player as expected. Not trying to be critical of him, I never thought he’d be the saviour.
I’m really struggling to work out the coaching structure. I feel like we have too many chiefs at the moment - Sheens, Benji and Robbie all fighting to be the voice.
We are getting worse, week by week. Sheens has already conceded next week as well as per his post match press conference.
This is just not sustainable for a professional sporting organisation.
I didn’t watch it and probably won’t, what did he say.

I was being a bit facetious, but still, I didn't enjoy his joke.

yeah it’s not the time for the coach to be joking around like that.
Offloads and 6 agains / penalties absolutely killed hard. Super hard to defend second phase play against the Broncos with all the strike they have out wide. Even if we iced all our chances there is still no way we win they game with the penalty count. Must of had over a dozen against us. Ref was ordinary.
Happy with Wakeham to see out the year as 7 while the club continues to look for a new half. Nice kick for our try and those grubbers will start to sit up. No way he kicks it dead all year.
Desperate for two quality signings. Obviously 7 but need an out and out fullback. Someone with the work ethic of Edwards and the speed of Walsh. Anyone out there lol. Wonder if they give Bula a decent crack this year...
Smart coaches will target AJ in defence as he rushes up and in quite hard. Just need to tweak that a little. However he has all the attributes for a good centre (both offensively and defensively). AJ and Naden should be the centres for the rest of the year.
Looking forward to the pod!!
*killed us!
Sack Sheens.
And, what exactly is Warren McDonnell's role at WT? I thought it was recruitment/retention?
Why is he sitting next to Sheens on the sidelines where an assistant coach could be sitting to discuss strategy and respond to the flow and challenges of the game? I know he is part of the Sheens insisted package-deal that has got him this superannuation top-up gig as a pretend modern NRL coach, but shouldn't Marshall and Farah be the ones providing insights? (yes, I see the headphones that Timeless Tim wears but I suspect he's listening to Slim Dusty tracks to ease the boredom of the spectacle unfolding in front of of him).
Not only is the club a farce in terms of being genuinely competitive - thanks to Chair, CEO, Board and Sheens - but they LOOK a farce when cameras catch vision of the befuddled due of Sheens and McDonnell on the sidelines.

From the outside looking in, I don’t think a role in the spine suits Doueihi, he can fill in there, but I don’t think he’s a permanent solution and that’s becoming a problem for him and the club. He offers a distinct set of attributes and skills that provide a good show reel, but it’s a fairly narrow range, most of Doueihi’s tries and try assists are essentially the same. His games not rounded enough to justify a permanent commitment to a role in the spine (1/6). He seems adamant he’s a 6, but he’s essentially a right edge ball-runner with a pass. I appreciate and admire a players ambitions, it’s a healthy disposition but it can also be driven by monetary gain (think 3/4s seeking fullback money). I fear it’s detrimental to his career and the club for him to be pushing towards something he’s not, at some point you need to be realistic in what you are and what you have to offer, you need to recognise your strengths and weaknesses to go from a good to a great player. You don’t want to spend your career as a square peg trying to fit into a round hole, he’s a good player suited to right centre, he needs to shift his focus both physically and mentally on becoming a great right centre.

I agree with this 100% and have been saying it for a while now. His defence is still a massive issue, he was never going to stop that first try but his attempt was embarrassing. He can't even get his body in the right place to have any chance of saving that try.

he came to us when we were a weak roster and he aligned himself with Madge who allowed him to pick his position (“in a 6! Play me in reserve grade”). He has a lot of talent and looks dangerous when running onto the ball in a sweeping set play (when he chimes into the centre position!) but he is way way too slow, too inflexible and too unfit to be a 6 or a 1.
it’s very simple in my eye. Brooks’ best position is 6 outside a 7 that controls the game. Douhie’s best position (if he isn’t sulking) is right centre. Laurie and Staines are both too small to play 1 (no knock on their attitude but they both get rag dolled, Staines marginally less).
I’m hindsight, letting Hastings go this year was a criminal decision. He was on contract for 650k and even if he signed for 24 we had no obligation to release him. We resuscitated his NRL and he owed us that year.
im quite concerned about the path dependency of we are now on as the marquee players are starting to give up given they are seeing their hard work destroyed by the halves. We are playing significantly worse than any other team in the competition. For the 2nd week in a row our two tries came from luck (a bomb and a dummy half run). The eels will put 50 on us and then we will have the bye to come up with a Hail Mary shuffle.

There is no fixing this mess for this year.

All of this is correct. That tackle was almost like he wanted to look like he was trying.
I don’t know where he fits as a footballer, every position you put him in he has weaknesses that are critical for that position.
He’s got a slightly inflated sense of his value because he’s played well in a poor team.
